STATEMENT ON THE DECISION BY THE CONFEDERATION OF AFRICAN FOOTBALL (CAF) TO WITHDRAW THE AFCON 2025 CHAMPIONSHIP FROM SENEGAL AND AWARD TO MOROCCO.

March 18, 2026

In football, the Laws of the Game are clear: the referee on the pitch is the final authority on decisions made during the match. Once play is allowed to continue and the match is completed, the result obtained on the field must stand.
Under the applicable rules of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), match officials have full authority during the game.

CAF regulations are in line with the FIFA Laws of the Game, which provide that:
“The referee has full authority to enforce the Laws of the Game in connection with the match to which he has been appointed, and his decisions on facts connected with play are final.”

— Law 5, Laws of the Game (applied by all Confederations including CAF competitions).
In the present case of the final AFCON match between Senegal and Morocco, the referee allowed the match to continue after the walk-off by Senegal, and the game was completed, including extra time, with a result obtained on the field of play.

Additionally, post match, the referee report noted a stoppage during the match, not a forfieture and recommended appropiate sanctions for the infractions during the match.
For this reason, the subsequent decision by CAF committee, taken after the match had already been concluded, should not override the authority exercised by the referee during the game in keeping with the Laws of the Game - Law 5.

Football must be decided on the pitch, not re-decided after the final whistle.
There is therefore no sporting justification to nullify a match that was completed in accordance with the referee’s authority and the Laws of the Game otherwise the beautiful game will head down a slippery slope where committee room officials and not match officials will be making post match rulings to override referees on-field decisions like penalties, offside and red cards.

Where will it end?
This decision has further scarred and blemished African football, undermining confidence in the fairness, consistency, and integrity of football on the continent.
I call on the court of Arbitration for Sports(CAS) and other relevant authorities to move decisively so that this travesty does not stand.

I also want to use this opportunity to clarify that social media posts widely circulating claiming that I support the decision by CAF Disciplinary Committee against Senegal is blatantly false.
All those circulating my image and attaching same to such fallacious statements are advised to refrain.

National Assembly Committee Recommends Criminal Probe into Alpha Amadou Barry Over Jammeh Assets.

A Special Select Committee of the National Assembly has recommended the initiation of criminal investigations against Alpha Amadou Barry and Alpha Kapital Advisory over their alleged role in the sale and disposal of assets linked to former president Yahya Jammeh.

According to the report, the committee recommends that criminal investigations be initiated against Mr Barry and Alpha Kapital Advisory for, among other things, alleged conspiracy to defraud the State.

The committee further recommended that Mr Barry be permanently prohibited from conducting any form of business with the Government of The Gambia.

In addition, lawmakers called on the government to launch a separate criminal investigation to determine whether the appointment of Mr Barry by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubacarr M. Tambadou, involved any form of corrupt practices.

The committee also recommended that the former Secretary to the Cabinet be referred to the Public Service Commission for disciplinary action for permitting unsigned reports from the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce to be tabled before Cabinet.

Furthermore, the committee urged that all Cabinet conclusions relating to the Janneh Commission and the Inter-Ministerial Committee be submitted to the National Assembly within thirty days.

The recommendations form part of the committee’s broader findings following its inquiry into the handling, sale and disposal of assets identified by the Janneh Commission in connection with former president Jammeh.

ANDA DON BENA ASSOCIATION HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL IFTAR, LAUNCHES ISATOU WELFARE FUNDS IN BANJUL

Banjul, The Gambia – March 3, 2026

The Anda Don Bena Association, in collaboration with Isatou Welfare Funds, has successfully organized its second annual Iftar program at the School of Nursing in Banjul. The event brought together students, community members, and invited guests to observe the holy month of Ramadan through unity, sharing, and compassion.

This year’s Iftar not only marked the second consecutive year of Iftar distribution by the association but also served as a significant milestone with the official launch of Isatou Welfare Funds, a foundation committed to advancing health, education, and community support initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Sainey Samba, Assistant Secretary of Anda Don Bena Association, highlighted the purpose and vision behind the initiative:

“As an association, this program forms a core part of our Terms of Reference. We are deeply committed to giving back to our community, especially during this sacred month of Ramadan a time that teaches us sacrifice, compassion, and generosity.

This Iftar is not just about providing meals; it is about strengthening unity, supporting one another, and reminding ourselves of the importance of community service. Seeing people come together here today gives us the motivation to continue and even expand this initiative in the future.

Anda Don Bena Association will remain dedicated to uplifting communities through meaningful programs, whether in education, social welfare, or awareness campaigns.”

Also delivering remarks, Isatou Dumbuya, Vice President of Isatou Welfare Funds, expressed gratitude to the association and shared the vision behind the foundation:

“We are sincerely grateful to Anda Don Bena Association for giving us this opportunity to officially launch Isatou Welfare Funds on such an important occasion. This partnership means a lot to us.

The establishment of this foundation represents a vision that has been in existence for over 20 years. Today marks a turning point where that vision becomes a structured platform to serve humanity.

Our mission is to support the less privileged, promote access to quality education, and contribute to the health and well-being of our communities. We believe that together, through collaboration and commitment, we can make a lasting impact.

This is just the beginning, and we look forward to building strong partnerships that will help us transform lives across The Gambia and beyond.

The event featured Quranic recitation, prayers (du’a), and the distribution of Iftar meals, creating an atmosphere of reflection and togetherness.

The successful hosting of the second annual Iftar and the launch of Isatou Welfare Funds reflect a growing culture of community-driven initiatives aimed at social impact and sustainable development in The Gambia.

Tension Erupts in Niumi Jinack as Authorities Destroy Cannabis Farms

Tension flared in the Niumi Jinack area on Saturday morning after officers of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, accompanied by personnel from the Gambia Police Force, reportedly moved into the villages of Jinack Kajatta and Niggi to dismantle and burn suspected cannabis farms.

According to reports reaching Kerr Fatou, the joint operation began in the early hours, with security officers entering the area and setting fire to large stretches of cultivated cannabis.

Witnesses said the operation appeared coordinated and deliberate. It was not immediately clear whether any arrests were made or if farm owners had been given prior notice. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement detailing the scope of the operation or the quantity of cannabis destroyed.
