Throwback almost Thursday! Remembering past work in the Sami Province and dreaming of the future. Working with folks from Bushtown to Sami Madiana, from gardens to farms, tree planting to beekeeping, from controlled burns to fencing and even planned grazing, from drinking attaya to association meetings under the bantaba to even hanging out on hill tops looking out over the river. Nothing is better then getting out there and making dreams happen!

We have just received word through an FAO program with Gambia Forestry, that they will be supporting the SBA by giving a donation of 20 KTB hive boxes and sending ten new community members for more Beekeeping training. This effort will increase economic development through sustainable beekeeping practices and create more value added product availability in the Karantaba area.

Congratulations to Karantaba Duto Koto!

Sami Beekeepers are not just beekeepers. They are farmers, foresters and herdsmen. Here at the bee reserve we have cattle grazing the forest foraging for leaves, seeds and fallen tree flowers. Having recently been hit with some grass fires near the reserve we enlisted the help of Aliou Ndow to mob graze the reserve and camp grounds to reduce understory tall grasses and plants.

The Sami Beekeeping Association is proud to announce further advancement on our goal to build our own bee reserve and camp. Almost finished with our main education facility construction and the development of our water capabilities. We are finally making some progress. As always our initiatives are to build local capacity through environmental education while building regenerative Agriculture skills. Keep an eye out for future posts covering the last three weeks of experience and developments.

We have made it to $580!!!! just a little more than 1/10th of what we need. Please keep donating and sharing. Let this project remind you that most people in the world do not have running water in their homes. This little project helps our beekeeping group have drinking water at our education center and we will be repairing one or more pumps in the community near by who helps partner sustainability projects with us.

Everyday people in Africa struggle to access clean water for drinking and cooking. Women and children more so are the ones who fetch water for their families and must walk long distances balancing jugs of water on their heads to bring clean water back to their homes. Having built an education cen...
