STAR MEDIA GROUP APPOINTS NEW MD
We are delighted to share a momentous announcement – Mr. Kawsu Badjie has been appointed as the Managing Director of Star Radio and Television, effective December 1, 2023.
PROFILE:
Mr. Badjie, 40 - pursued Engineering at The Gambia Technical Training
Institute and Mass Communication at Stratford College of Management. With over two decades of
leadership experience in various local and international capacities, he has demonstrated notable leadership skills, including:
- Setting clear institutional goals
- Empowering teamwork for success
- Decision-making in critical situations
- Inspiring and recognizing success
- Delegating assignments and embracing accountability
Badjie initiated his journey with Star Radio in May 2016 as an analyst on the Wake Up Gambia
program, showcasing his passion for advocacy through a two-year voluntary commitment. His
impartiality and policy understanding garnered recognition beyond Gambia, leading him to Capital
FM in June 2018 as a part-time radio presenter and analyst for sixteen months on SEN SUB-BA
and Talk to the Nation.
After completing his contract, Badjie returned to Star FM and TV in October 2019 as a part-time
Radio and Television Presenter for the Up This Morning TV Talk Show. In January 2021, he was
appointed Logistics Manager at Star, where he implemented requisition and retirement forms,
enhancing transparency and accountability. Recognized for his contributions, in November 2022,
Badjie was appointed as the Logistics and Human Resource Manager. Effective December 1,
2023, the Senior Management Team appointed Mr. Kawsu Badjie as the Managing Director of
Star Radio and Television.
PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE:
Kawsu Badjie commenced his professional career as a Youth Activities Coordinator in 2002 at a
Community Based Organization in Ebo-Town. From 2004 to 2006, he served as the China Wing
Coordinator and Deputy PRO EYCO. He then progressed to the regional level, holding roles such
as Kanifing Municipality Regional Coordinator for the Africa Network of Adolescents/Youth on
Population Development from 2007 to 2009 and KM Regional Speaker for National Youth
Parliament from 2009 to 2012.
Badjie's journey continued with roles like National Coordinator for the Africa Network of
Adolescents/Youth on Population Development Gambia Chapter from 2013 to 2017 and
Speaker for National Youth Parliament in The Gambia from 2017 to 2020. In addition to his
leadership roles, Badjie accumulated a decade of teaching experience as a Lecturer at the
Engineering Department of the Gambia Technical Training Institute from December 2008 to
February 2019. He is also the Founder and Proprietor of Kaw-Air Enterprise, established in 2013 and ongoing.
