The first 6 (from the 24) Rafale fighter jets landed at Tanagra Airbase after they flew over the Acropolis!

Jan 05th, 1913

On this day in 1913, the AVEROF battleship devastates Ottoman Navy in the Battle for Lemnos!

The Royal Hellenic Navy, led by the battleship, defeated the second and last attempt by the Ottoman Empire to break the Greek naval blockade against the Dardanelles to reclaim supremacy over the Aegean Sea.

The Greek fleet, led by Rear Admiral Pavlos Kountouriotis, was comprised of the armoured cruiser flagship AVEROF, the three old ironclad battleships SPETSAI, HYDRA and PSARA and the destroyers AETOS, IERAX, SFENDONI, NAFKRATOUSA & NIKE!

The Ottoman Navy retreated beyond the Dardanelles for good, They never attempted another attack, leaving the Greek Navy the dominant power in the Aegean Sea.
