Domaine Hatzimichalis / Κτήμα Χατζημιχάλη

Domaine Hatzimichalis / Κτήμα Χατζημιχάλη Α family owned run winery in Atalanti Valley with tradition and love for wine making since 1973! Hatzimichalis, and his two sons Leonidas and Panagiotis.

It all started from Dimitris Hatzimichalis, who made his first wine in his backyard at the age of 19 and several decades later he had excelled the process and became one of the top wine makers in Greece. When Dimitris first visited Atalanti Valley he was amazed by its unique ecosystem and fertile land; without second thoughts he bought his first vine hectares in 1973. Today, as a family wine-growi

ng business with 220 hectares (520 acres) of privately owned vineyards, Domaine Hatzimichalis is now run by its founder, Dimitris L.

Mid-March in the vineyards of Atalanti Valley.
The vines are slowly waking up from their winter rest, while the final touches of pruning prepare them for the new growing season. Soon the first buds will appear, marking the beginning of another cycle that will gradually transform the vineyard into the vibrant landscape we see in the summer months.

The cold days may not be over yet, but we’re already daydreaming of summer sunsets, Greek islands, and glasses of Malagousia by the sea.
One of Greece’s most beloved indigenous varieties, Malagousia is a treat on its own. Our Malagousia Drys ferments partly in wooden barrels, balancing its intense aromas with beautiful character and depth.

A small reminder from the wall: wine starts long before the bottle.
Refosco lesson of the day: grape names often describe the vine, not the wine.
“Peduncolo rosso” means “red stem” and it’s exactly how this grape variety is identified in the vineyard.

Καλή Σαρακοστή (Kali Sarakosti)!
In Greece, it marks the start of Lent, a day for simple, shared food around the table.
All the essentials are here, the only thing missing is you and your loved ones. 🍷

Did you know wine doesn’t “come” red or white from the grape itself, but mostly from the skins? 🍇🍷
Red wine gets its color when dark skinned grapes ferment with their skins (and sometimes seeds) for days or weeks.
White wine is usually made by pressing grapes and fermenting the juice without the skins, even when the grapes are dark skinned.
Rosé sits in between, with just a short skin contact, from a few hours to a day, for that soft pink hue.

February 16 is International Syrah Day. 🍇🍷
Today we celebrate Syrah from our Drisbay Vineyard in the Atalanti Valley. Planted at 250m altitude, shaped by the area’s climate and diverse sediments, and grown without irrigation, it delivers depth, structure, and that signature peppery spice in the glass. Cheers.
