Most policy debates focus on outcomes. Yet, sometimes the real story is the process itself.

This week's Friday Brief reflects on a question that institutions, associations, companies, and governments all eventually face: What happens when the mechanisms designed to create consensus become the biggest obstacle to decision-making?

There is a tendency in policymaking to assume that consensus is always the ideal outcome. After all, consensus sounds positive.

If you work in Public Affairs, consulting, associations, or policy, you've probably noticed it too. Projects suddenly become urgent, meetings appear out of nowhere.

This week's Friday Brief is about the annual rush to get everything done before August and the difference between real urgency and seasonal panic.

Every year, around the same time, a peculiar phenomenon takes place across offices, ministries, associations, and boardrooms. People suddenly remember that summer is coming.

In public affairs, ideas rarely succeed on their own. They need timing, strategy, and above all precision.

🎗️ European Cancer Week - Together against cancer inequalities.

This year’s theme is a reminder that cancer outcomes across Europe are still too often shaped by inequalities in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and access to care.

Where a patient lives, the resources available within healthcare systems and the level of access to innovation can significantly affect outcomes, despite the scientific progress achieved in recent years.

Addressing these disparities requires more than awareness. It requires coordinated and patient-centred action across policy, healthcare and research.

Progress against cancer depends on:

• equitable access to prevention and screening
• stronger and more resilient healthcare systems
• support for innovation and clinical research
• policies that place patients at the centre of decision-making
• collaboration across institutions, healthcare stakeholders and civil society

At The addcase, we believe that reducing cancer inequalities is not only a healthcare priority it is a matter of social equity and effective policymaking.
Because no patient’s outcome should depend on geography, resources or systemic barriers.

Events like Eurovision are officially “not political.” Yet every year, it becomes one of the clearest examples of how soft power actually works.

This week’s Friday Brief, written by our Public Affairs Consultant Krystallenia Manavi, reflects on the political influence that comes from spaces that never openly present themselves as political in the first place.

Every year, millions of people watch Eurovision and insist on the same thing: “It’s just entertainment.” “It’s just music.

🧪 International Clinical Trials Day

Clinical trials are where scientific innovation meets real-world impact. They are essential not only for the development of new treatments, but also for building more resilient, evidence-based healthcare systems. From regulatory frameworks and patient recruitment to ethics, transparency and access, clinical research depends on effective coordination between institutions, industry, healthcare professionals and patients.

As Europe continues to strengthen its position in health innovation, the discussion around clinical trials is increasingly linked to broader policy priorities: competitiveness, equitable access, digital health and cross-border collaboration.

At The addcase, we believe that enabling innovation in healthcare requires more than scientific progress alone, it requires policy environments that support research, foster trust and place patients at the centre of the process.
Because better healthcare outcomes begin with evidence.

🌍 International Day of Living Together in Peace

In an increasingly polarised world, coexistence is often discussed as an ideal. In practice, it is something that must be actively built, through dialogue, participation and inclusive institutions.

Living together in peace does not only concern international relations. It also shapes how societies approach policymaking, public discourse and stakeholder engagement. Constructive dialogue between institutions, businesses, civil society and communities remains essential for addressing complex social, economic and health challenges in a sustainable way.

We at The addcase believe that effective public affairs begins with the ability to bring different perspectives to the same table, creating space for cooperation, mutual understanding and long-term impact.

🇪🇺 It's Europe Day!

Europe is often discussed through institutions, regulations and political developments. But we always have to remember that at its core, the European project is about coordination and the ability to bring together different sectors, priorities and stakeholders around common goals.

From public health and sustainability to food systems and innovation, many of today’s challenges can no longer be addressed at national level alone.

European cooperation matters because interconnected challenges require interconnected solutions.

Our work as Public Affairs professionals, is at the intersection of policy, industry and public dialogue, supporting stakeholders in navigating the evolving European landscape and contributing to more informed and sustainable decision-making, as Europe is not only shaped in Brussels, it is shaped through collaboration in each one of us1

The reactions to the recent hantavirus incident showed something worrying: how quickly fear can override trust in scientific protocols, even among otherwise rational people.

This week’s Friday Brief, written by our Public Affairs Consultant Krystallenia Manavi, reflects on why trust in evidence-based policymaking can never be taken for granted.

The recent discussions surrounding the suspected hantavirus incident linked to the MV Hondius revealed something deeper than concern about a possible public health risk. They revealed how fragile public trust in science has become.
