Big news for marine robotics in Greece.
For the first time outside Cambridge, Massachusetts, two MIT mechanical engineering courses in marine robotics are coming to Piraeus.
Under the initiative of Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation S.A. the Triton Marine Robotics Mastery Programme will run June 1 to 26, 2026, at the Hellenic Naval Academy (HNA), presented by MIT Open Learning through StartSmart SEE under a Strategic Alliance Agreement.
β MIT 2.017: An Introduction to Marine Robotics (June 1 to 12), led by Michael Triantafyllou (Doherty Professor and Director, MIT Sea Grant). Design, build, and race a team-built autonomous surface vessel.
β MIT 2.680: Marine Autonomy, Sensing and Communications (June 15 to 26), led by Michael Benjamin (Principal Research Scientist, MIT). Develop and field-deploy MOOS-IvP autonomy on the water.
Taught by MIT Sea Grant and MIT Mechanical Engineering faculty. MIT Open Learning certificate on completion. Each course capped at 30 participants.
Our sincere thanks to Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation S.A., for the leadership and the collaboration that have brought this programme to Greece for the benefit of the Armed Forces and the Military Academies. Alongside that core mission, the programme opens a limited number of places to industry, research institutions, and universities building marine autonomy capability in Greece.
Open-market places are limited.
