The end of September marks the end of trahana season but the beginning of something new for us: Senses of Goumenissa!

Each month, we’ll be highlighting the beautiful things in Goumenissa that awaken our sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing—the small, everyday details that make this place feel so alive.

And what better way to begin than with trahana? Trahana is a traditional Greek food made from a simple mixture of grain and milk or yogurt. For generations, families have prepared it by hand at the end of summer, when the days are still warm enough to dry the little pieces of dough in the sun before storing them for the colder months.

In Goumenissa, making trahana is more than preparing food. It’s a seasonal ritual. Hands working the dough, the smell of fresh ingredients, the feel of flour between your fingers, and the anticipation of enjoying it later in a warm bowl of soup.

So, let’s make trahana together. From flour, to dough, to the finished product. This is just one of the many senses of Goumenissa.

What should we discover next?

Hi everyone!

I know it's been a while since our last blog post; don't worry, they're not gone, just... patiently waiting in the drafts folder for their moment to shine!

But I wanted to kick off September with something special: a guest post from Sofia, sharing her beautifully personal memories of growing up in Goumenissa and what it meant to come home again.

Sofia is the first of several guest voices we'll be featuring here - because Goumenissa isn't just my story; it's all of ours.

If you have a fond memory of Goumenissa you'd love to share, we'd be so happy to hear from you - send us a message! 💌

Her post is live now - link below.

Kalo Mina!

There are places that never really let us go — home in the truest sense, tied to childhood, memory, and the people who shape it. For our guest writer, Sofia, that place is Goumenissa, the town beneath Mount Paiko where she was born, left as a young woman, and returned to years later. In this perso...

What an incredible year it’s been! Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way.

From humble beginnings to where we are today, every step of this journey has been shaped by the people who believed in us. As we look back on the memories captured here, we’re just as excited about what’s ahead.

The Goumenissa Project continues to grow, and we can’t wait to welcome new friends into this next chapter. Whether you’ve been with us from the start or you’re just discovering us, there’s a place for you here.

Ready to be part of the story? Send us a message and join the experience.

With gratitude,
