Marble funerary Sphinx from Aetopetra in Korinthos (575-550 BC) . This sculpture is an exceptional example of art during the archaic period. It was made as funerary statue that used to be placed uppon the grave.
The Sphinx sculptures in antiquity had a strong funerary and apotropaic character. They functioned as guardians of the dead, as symbols of divine power, but also as creatures that accompanied souls in the afterlife.

Bender fortress well known as Tighina fortress is one of the most important historical and architectural monuments in Moldova and it is situated in the right coast of Dnister river. It was fortified for the first time in 15th century with mudd and wood during the reign fo Stefan the Great from their protection of Tatar attacks.
In 1538 the sultan Suleiman the Great occupied the area , renamed the fortress into Benden and ordered the reconstruction of the fortress in stone.
It was a refuge of the King Charles IX of Sweden after his defeat in the battle of Poltava in 1709.
The architect of the fortress was the famous Ottoman Mimar Sinan and it was designed according to the western European style which cosists of an acropolis with 8 towers. Inside the castle there is a Torture Museum with torture machines uses during the Middle ages.
The fortress is located in the city of Bender which is de facto controlled by the unrecognised region of Transistria.

A unique archaeological find is exhibited in the archaeological Museum of Komotini. The golden bust of Septimius Severus who was Roman emperor from 193 till 211 AD and he was the founder of Severous dynasty.
This masterpiece of toreutic art, was found in 1965 in Plotinopolis near Didymoteicho in Evros area by soldiers who were digging trenches on the hill of Agia Petra.
This bust used to be placed on a pole and carried by the Roman army (imaginiferi : the ones who carry the imperial image) symbolizing the presence of the Roman emperor.
In the bust is depicted bearded with strong facial features, his hair is styled in short spiral curls and he is wearing a scaly chest with a gorgonian in the center.
This is a work of pure gold , slightly smaller than natural size and made using the forging technique.

The ancient theatre of Hephaestia in Lemnos island, is on of the oldest theatres in hellenic world dating back to late 5th early 4th century BC.
It was a vital center of the ancient city of Hephaestus,which was one of the two city states of ancient Lemnos which flourished from 7th to the 1st century BC, constituting a point of development of the ancient greek religious life of the island under the protection of god Hephaestus.
The theater is built of stone, with the orchestra being its oldest part. The first seats for the dignitaries are made of limestone from the quarries of Hephaestus , while the rest are made of slate and limestone from the area.
The theater went through various construction phases, with an initial design of a rectangular shape and wooden seats, totaling ten rows. On top of this early structure, the epitheatre was later built, which gave it its current appearance, following the general trend of change that theaters experienced from the 3rd century BC onwards.

This marvelous monument is Pompey's pillar and it's one the largest monolithic columns(20,46 meters) ever created, made out of granite from Aswan . This Corinthian style column was built in 297 AD to commemorate the victory of empreror Diocletian over the Alexandrian revolt which was lasted 8 months of resistance. During this hard resistance the people of Alexandria suffered from famine. Finally the city surrendered to Rome. The name Pompey's was given mistakenly during middle ages from the Crusaders that believed that the ashes of the great political and military leader Pompey were at the top of the column.

This impressive Roman marble sarcophagus from 3rd century AD was made possibly for a member of the elite society. It depicts Dionysus the god of wine with his followers satyrs and maenads (women in ecstatic state), a theme very common in this kind of reliefs of this period. The lion's heads with the rings , are imitations of the bronze handles on wooden coffins. The scene depicts all the figures in an intense vivid movement. The sarcophagus was made and stayed in Rome until tthe early 20th century when it was transported to England and Rembrandt society in 1983 bought it as a gift to the Museum for it 50th anniversary in 1984.

This marvellous marble group of goddess Artemis and a deer was found in the theatre quarter of Delos island. Delos was the most sacred place in the Cyclades and late became one of the most leading trade centre in the Mediterranean collecting huge influence and power. During Hellenistic period Delos was a very important center for art and culture and this statue is a great example of this quality of art it produced. Artemis the goddess of hunting is depicted in vivid movemet ready to kill an animal while her dress fluttered in the wind.
Delos was the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo who were the children of Leto and Zeus. Leto fleed to this island because Hera commanded no one should allow sanctuary for her childbirth and as Delos was a free floating island so Poseidon anchored it to the sea for Leto.
The statue is exhibited in the exhibition "Cycladitisses" of the museun of Cycladic Art. ( 150-100 BC)

The cultures of the Black Sea including Georgia during Bronze Age , established local chthonic male and female deities and while they came in contact with the Graeco-Roman world, they introduced the cult of Dionysus with all its imagery in their culture.

This monumental statue witb two heads, is one of the oldest statues in the history of humanity dating back to 6500 BC. Whether the psir of figures represents two ancestors or divinities , the statues reflects the beliefs that were held in the Neolithic village of Aln Ghazal in Jordan.
