in.mat-Lab was founded in 2016 with headquarters in Lavrion Technological Cultural Park by an experienced team of Mining & Metallurgy Engineers, aiming to cover a set of innovative services in the neuralgic sector of industrial minerals and their applications worldwide. With long experience in minerals, such as perlite and bentonite, as well as vermiculite, zeolite etc., it transfers knowledge and

analytical methodologies to the next level of industrial evaluation in the fields of mining research and exploration as well as laboratory and commercial development of new products up to recycling and minimization of waste. in.mat-Lab is aiming at a most precise Value-to-Client Analysis based on market-oriented laboratory protocols. With results verified on industrial scale by its clients, the company offers critical information for smart mining and furthermore on targeted features regarding end products and their applications. For this reason and specificaly for perlie and vermiculite, a specialized laboratory has been installed, operating a multi-task lab expansion furnace, having the ability to process all grades/qualities and providing analytical data on each sample’s properties and characteristics directly related to the various final applications.

At in.mat-Lab, we are advancing the frontier of lightweight composite materials engineered for superior thermal insulation performance.
After an intensive phase of research and material optimization, our team has successfully developed a novel composite system combining reduced density with enhanced insulating characteristics. The material architecture has been designed to address growing demands for energy efficiency, structural performance, and scalable manufacturing.
The product has now reached a key milestone and is entering the next phase of validation and performance evaluation as we prepare the pathway toward commercialization.
We believe lightweight, high-performance composite solutions will play a pivotal role in enabling more sustainable industrial systems — and this innovation represents an important step in that direction.

in.mat-Lab is proud to announce that European Commission/Joint Research Centre invited our founder Dr. Antonia Ekonomakou to participate in the workshop: “Advancing Construction Materials – Advanced and innovative materials as enablers of sustainability, circularity, resilience, and competitiveness in the EU construction sector”.

The workshop presented the findings of the ongoing study on advanced and innovative materials in the construction sector. The study looks at how advanced materials can address key challenges for construction - from sustainability and resource efficiency to resilience and competitiveness. The discussion was focused on systemic enablers for innovation, including testing and demonstration infrastructures, regulatory frameworks, and skills development. The event brought together colleagues across the Commission, alongside external experts from research and industry, to exchange perspectives and provide input to the finalization of the report.

The workshop took place on 16th October 2025 at the European Commission premises in Brussels.

ReGlass2Con project has already been initiated and some first results are quite encouraging. The main target is to develop innovative, sustainable, and lightweight geopolymer-based building materials, primarily from recycled glass waste, which will serve as eco-friendly alternatives to traditional construction materials.

in.mat-Lab will play a pivotal role in the development of lightweight geopolymer-based materials by conducting expandability studies, optimizing material properties, and supporting the scaling-up process from laboratory to pilot scale.

ReGlass2Con is funded by Eurostars 3 – Call 7. Eurostars is part of the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs. The partnership is co-funded by the European Union through Horizon Europe.

Project Title: “Lightweight PCM-enhanced geopolymer panels for upgraded building applications” (GeoPCM)

We are happy to announce the official launch of the GeoPCM project, funded under the open call of the iclimabuilt project.

The proposed innovation is a PCM enhanced lightweight geopolymer material with upgraded insulation properties. The lightweight matrix consists of a proven insulating geopolymer coming from recycled inorganic wastes developed by MNLT.

The Perlite-PCMs are innovative lightweight composites of a perlitic shell containing paraffins developed by in.mat-Lab. The products enhanced by Perlite-PCMs will provide thermal storage distributed throughout the complete building and exhibit an improved combustibility class compared to the conventional micro-encapsulated PCMs.

The iclimabuilt partner EURECAT will be supporting our workplan by facilitating the demonstrations of our novel materials. YS Cypriot Catalysts Ltd. will perform the Life Cycle Analysis and form the Go-to-Market strategy for the novel materials.

The innovative production processes of the individual elements will contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible approach to construction. They are also expected to be cost efficient with the resultant construction products competitive to the existing commercial solutions.
