Yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming the Minister of Development, Mr. Τάκης Θεοδωρικάκος - Takis Theodorikakos, together with the Secretary General for Private Investments, Ms. Stellina Siarapi, to the Athens LifeTech Park in Spata.

The visit highlighted the importance of strategic investments in pharmaceutical R&D and biotechnology as a key pillar of Greece’s new productive model. ALTP, funded by ELPEN and operated as an independent, not for profit entity is Greece’s first biotechnology park and the first of its kind in Southeastern Europe.

Purpose-built to bridge the gap between academic discovery and clinical application, ALTP will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for startups, researchers, and industry, creating a capital-efficient, globally connected ecosystem for drug discovery and development.

We warmly thank the Minister and the Secretary General for their visit and for recognizing the role of the life sciences in driving sustainable growth, innovation, and new opportunities for the next generation of scientists.

Dr. Deepak Barot engaged with leading scientists and biopharma partners from the US and Europe, exploring opportunities for early preclinical projects and strategic collaborations.

As part of the conference, Dr. Deepak Barot delivered a talk on "Athens LifeTech Park: Partnering for Breakthrough Discoveries", highlighting our mission of advancing early-stage drug discovery and development for the benefit of patients worldwide.

Ο Dr. Deepak Barot, Αντιπρόεδρος του Τμήματος Προκλινικής Έρευνας, εκπροσώπησε το Athens LifeTech Park στο συνέδριο Discovery & Development Europe 2025, που πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Βασιλεία της Ελβετίας.

Ο Dr. Barot συναντήθηκε με κορυφαίους επιστήμονες και βιοφαρμακευτικές εταιρείες από τις ΗΠΑ και την Ευρώπη διερευνώντας ευκαιρίες για προκλινικά ερευνητικά έργα και στρατηγικές συνεργασίες. Ms. Eleni Pentafragka, Chair of the Board at Athens LifeTech Park, joined the Greeking Out panel in Cambridge, hosted by Endeavor Greece, CJBS, and Big Pi Ventures.

She had the opportunity to present the vision behind Athens LifeTech Park -a world-class biotech park- that brings together translational research, startup incubation, and preclinical development under one roof.

Reflecting on the future of Athens LifeTech Park, Ms. Pentafragka said: “Launching in early 2026, Athens LifeTech Park will provide the specialized infrastructure needed to support life sciences innovation in Greece. This will lay the groundwork for translating research into venture-backed companies. We are deeply optimistic that, in the coming years, we will see success stories emerge — not in isolation, but as part of a vibrant and growing ecosystem."

🔬 The first official meeting of Athens LifeTech Park's Advisory Board took place in New York!

Our Advisory Board is composed of four distinguished Greek scientists: Dr. Dimitris Agrafiotis, Dr. Kosmas Giallourakis, Dr. George Kollias, and Dr. Dimitris Skokos. Their presence contributes to the strategic planning and implementation of the vision of the Athens LifeTech Park. The shared goal is to establish the park as a global catalyst for life science innovation, based in Greece.

The Chair of our Board, Eleni Pentafragka, stated “The composition of the Advisory Board, bringing together members from both the Greek and international research and business communities, serves as a powerful multiplier of Athens LifeTech Park’s impact. The Chair of the Board at Athens LifeTech Park and Chief Strategy Officer & Board Member ELPEN, Eleni Pentafragka, participated in the discussion “Incubators & Entrepreneurs: Building Success Together” at the Panorama of Entrepreneurship & Career Development, highlighting the key factors for the success of biotech startups in Greece.

She emphasized the importance of access to well-equipped laboratory infrastructure and receiving guidance from experienced bio-entrepreneurs. Moreover, leveraging the Greek scientific diaspora, local talent and the increasing availability of capital for investments in the life sciences is equally important.

“Bioinnovation doesn't start in a garage — it starts on the bench,” stated Ms. Pentafraga, noting that there has never been a more exciting time for bioentrepreneurship in Greece!

Dr. Dimitris Iliopoulos, member of Athens LifeTech Park’s Board of Directors, participated in a discussion on Artificial Intelligence in Drug Discovery at the Montgomery Summit in Santa Monica.

Moderated by Quentin Hardy, a New York Times editor, the session featured Dr. Iliopoulos, alongside Dr. Mike Nally, CEO at Generate Biomedicines, a Flagship Pioneering company and Dr. Thore Graepel, SVP of AI & Machine Learning at Altos Labs. The discussion explored the transformative role of AI in identifying novel drug targets and developing therapeutics for complex diseases, highlighting breakthroughs and challenges in the field.

As one of the premier AI technology events, the Montgomery Summit gathers global leaders annually to shape the future of AI. This year’s summit received widespread recognition and even making an appearance on Nasdaq’s iconic billboard in New York City.
