The 2016 trend is giving me all of the feelings.
Rewind 10 years, and I am applying with the state for a business license, grabbing some free clip art from the internet, and creating my first logo. (done is better than perfect, right?) It was a little paintbrush and I was so excited to show it to the world. Nothing fancy, nothing custom, but deeply loved.
I had just quit a job I adored to move to Antigua Guatemala with my boyfriend and our two rowdy dogs for two years. I didn’t know then, but I was building a foundation for the rest of my life. He would marry me, we would have a beautiful baby, and my business would be still be kicking after a decade.
But, what was I thinking in 2016?
“I need to make enough money to get me through these two years.”
That’s it. I needed two years to be able to travel with him. I never thought this business would carry me into 2026, but I am filled with gratitude that it has.
From a small team in Guatemala managing social media accounts, to a fractional CMO and creative strategist, I’ve had the thrill of working with some of the most creative people on the planet.
2016 felt a little uncomfortable and scary, but outside of that fear was all of this. Thank you for being on the journey with me.
Oh, and if you ever want to hike volcanoes, see gorgeous colorful textiles and architecture, delicious coffee and chocolate, and enjoy a culture of kindness—you should add Guatemala to your bucket list.
