With the constant complaints from Guyanese about GPL’s on-and-off service, it is important that customers understand: lately, when the electricity comes back on, it is often reaching our homes in surges.

These repeated surges put our appliances and our homes at great risk of damage or even fire.

*What can you do to protect you and yours?*
1. *Get a whole-home surge protector* installed at your main breaker.

2. *Use individual surge protectors* for the outlets that power your important appliances.

3. *During each blackout*, unplug everything. Then wait 15 minutes after the electricity comes back on before plugging things back in.
