Message of Condolences from Dr. Mavis Benn

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of my dear friend, Dr. Rupert Roopnarine.

Rupert was not only an outstanding scholar, parliamentarian, and statesman, but a man of exceptional intellect, integrity, and grace. His contribution to education, public service, and the political development of our nation will forever remain etched in our history. He served Guyana with dignity and unwavering commitment, and his leadership inspired many across generations.

On a personal note, I have lost a treasured friend. Our conversations were always rich with insight, reflection, and hope for a better Guyana. He possessed a rare blend of brilliance and humility that made him both admirable and deeply approachable. His wisdom, calm strength, and genuine love for people will be greatly missed.

Guyana has lost a distinguished son, but his legacy of service, scholarship, and principled leadership will continue to guide us.

To his family, loved ones, colleagues, and all who mourn his passing, I extend my heartfelt sympathy. May you find comfort in the remarkable life he lived and the countless lives he touched.
