FACT: Gold doesn't rust. Gold doesn't corrode. Gold doesn't tarnish.

According to research, gold is one of the least chemically reactive elements on the periodic table. It doesn't react with oxygen, moisture, or most acids under normal conditions, which is why ancient gold artefacts from Egypt still look exactly as they did thousands of years ago.

It's also why gold is the preferred material for the most critical electronic connections on earth; the ones where failure is not an option, like spacecraft and medical equipment.

If you buried an ounce of gold today, your great-grandchildren could dig it up, and it would still be perfect. Name another investment that does that!

Mining is not a soft industry. The terrain is hard, the hours are long, and the conditions don't negotiate.

But neither do the people in it.

Tag someone whose work ethic in this industry deserves a round of applause or share to motivate them!

Small-scale mining is the backbone of Guyana's gold sector.

According to EITI Guyana, the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector accounts for approximately 88% of Guyana's gold production, and it's fully legalised, which is a rare distinction globally.

It employs over 15,000 people directly across the hinterland, and unlike most countries where small-scale mining operates in legal grey areas, Guyana's miners operate under the Mining Act of 1989 with proper licensing.

This is the sector GGDMA was built to support and represent.

If you work in small-scale mining, drop a comment and tell us what region you're from!

Your laptop probably has more gold in it than your phone.

A smartphone contains roughly 0.034 grams of gold. A desktop computer motherboard? Up to 0.15 grams. A server motherboard used in data centres? Up to 1 full gram of gold.

As the world builds more data centres, AI systems, and high-end electronics, demand for gold in technology keeps growing, and it's not a trend that's slowing down.

Guyana's gold is literally powering the digital world.

The 4 C's of Diamonds: Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat.

These four criteria are the global standard for evaluating every diamond, from the ones sold in jewellery stores in New York to the ones coming out of Guyana's rivers.

Guyana's diamonds are primarily alluvial, natural and unenhanced. They enter international markets assessed by the same standards as every other diamond on earth.

Which of the 4 C's do you think matters most?

Every claim that looked impossible, every season that looked like a write-off; every problem that looked unsolvable until someone in Guyana went and solved it anyway...

That's the spirit of this industry.

What's one thing in your operation you solved this year that seemed impossible at the start?

Happy World Environment Day!

GGDMA believes the future of Guyana's mining sector is built on doing things right, for the industry, for the communities around it, and for the land that makes it all possible.

Mining History Spotlight: El Dorado was real, and it was Guyana!

In the 16th century, European explorers heard stories of a golden king, El Dorado, who ruled a city of gold called Manoa somewhere in the Guianas.

They searched for it for centuries and never found the city.

But the gold? That was real.
By 1887, Guyana's gold rush was drawing miners from around the world. Crowds flooded in chasing what explorers had spent 300 years trying to find.

It turned out El Dorado wasn't a myth; it was just waiting for the right people to find it.
