A relevant article given how many Companies are seeking ways to create innovative and engaged cultures. Empathetic leadership is key.
Empathy is a core competency required to understand what problem or opportunity the business is trying to solve. It's also a great way to understand the expressed, and more importantly the unmet/latent needs of your workforce - especially when multi-generational.
My favorite ways to conduct empathy in the workplace are: 1) deep listening, 2) being radically curious and a keen observer, 3) frequently engaging team members in short intercept conversations/interviews, and 4) walking a mile in their shoes.
A diverse workforce with such different generational values posses a unique challenge to leadership training. Teaching empathy may offer an unexpected solution.
