Fifteen years of reliability, relationships, and results โ€” and a prospect can't see any of it on your website. The business you've built deserves a website that tells that story before you pick up the phone.

That's the problem.

Clean design. Fast load. Mobile-friendly. Ticks every box on the project brief. They showed you the finished site, you approved it, and everyone moved on.

But nobody on that call ever asked the one question that actually matters:

"When a stranger lands on this page, do they know why they should call us instead of anyone else?"

Most reseller websites look credible enough. The issue isn't aesthetics. It's that they're built to get signed off, not to get inbounds.

There's no clear next step. The contact page is buried. The homepage reads like a brochure โ€” here's who we are, here's what we sell, here's a stock photo of a headset โ€” but it never does the work of actually convincing someone.

Prospects arrive with a silent question: "Why you?"

Not why telecoms. Not why now. Why your business, specifically, over the twelve other results they've got open.

If the website doesn't answer that โ€” quickly, clearly, in plain language โ€” they won't ask you directly. They'll just leave.

A website that wins business doesn't need to be the most impressive one in the channel. It just needs to speak to the right person, at the right moment, and make the next step obvious.

Most don't do that. They just look like they do.

When your site was last built or updated, was conversion ever part of the brief โ€” or was it mostly about how it looked?

Most of them still don't know what that means for their phone system.

And yet the majority of reseller websites don't mention it once.

Not a page. Not a paragraph. Not even a line.

That's extraordinary when you think about what this moment actually represents. The biggest forced technology migration this channel has ever seen. Every SME in the country with an ISDN line or an analogue setup is going to need help โ€” whether they've figured that out yet or not.

The resellers who position themselves clearly around this, who explain it plainly on their website, who make it easy for a worried office manager to land on their homepage and immediately think "these people understand what I'm dealing with" โ€” those are the businesses that win the next 18 months.

The ones who don't mention it are hoping the phone rings anyway.

Here's the thing about a deadline like this: the prospect is already anxious. They've seen something about the switch-off, heard it from their IT contact, maybe got a letter. They're searching. They just need to find someone who sounds like they've got it handled.

If your website doesn't speak to that moment, someone else's will.

The window isn't closed. But it's not sitting open forever either.

Does your site mention the switch-off at all โ€” and if so, how are you positioning around it? Curious what approaches people in the channel are taking.

Check the footer of your website right now.

What year does the copyright say?

It sounds like a small thing. And honestly? Your prospects probably won't notice it. But Google will.

When someone is doing their homework on you โ€” and they are, before they ever pick up the phone โ€” they have to find you first. That's where the cracks show.

The last news post. The blog that stopped mid-2021. The footer quietly signalling that nobody has touched this site in years. Google reads every one of those signals. And it rewards sites that look alive โ€” penalising the ones that don't.

So before a prospect ever lands on your page, the algorithm has already made a judgement call. You just never saw it happen.

It's the digital equivalent of a shop with a sun-bleached sign and a window display that hasn't changed since before COVID. The business might be thriving. But from the outside โ€” and from a search results page โ€” you can't tell. So people keep scrolling.

The irony is that most of these businesses are genuinely busy. Good retention, solid engineers, real customers who've been with them for years. The website just never kept pace with any of it.

The gap between what the business actually is and what the website signals to search engines โ€” that's where deals quietly fall apart.

Not with a rejection. Just with a search result on page two and a click that went somewhere else.

When did you last audit your site the way Google does? Not the design โ€” but the freshness, the activity, the signs that a real business is still moving forward?

06/08/2026

Experience doesn't show up on a website automatically. A newer reseller with sharper positioning is winning deals that should belong to operators with decades in the channel.

That's not a skills problem โ€” it's a presentation problem.

Copy your homepage headline. Paste it into Google.

How many of your competitors could have written the exact same line?

"We provide business telecoms solutions to companies across the UK."

It's on more reseller websites than you'd think. Word for word, or close enough that it doesn't matter. Same sentence, different logo, different town.

And the brutal truth is โ€” it's not wrong. It's just completely meaningless.

It tells a prospect nothing about who you actually help, what you understand about their situation, or why they should call you instead of the next result down the page.

Think about what a prospect is actually dealing with when they find you. They've got a PSTN deadline looming. Their current provider has gone quiet. Their IT setup is a mess and nobody owns the voice side of it. They're not looking for "business telecoms solutions." They're looking for someone who gets their specific problem and sounds like they've solved it before.

The businesses winning that prospect are the ones whose website speaks directly to that moment โ€” not the ones with the cleanest design or the longest product list.

One line on a homepage can be the difference between a phone call and a closed tab.

Have a look at yours today. Could any of your competitors copy it without changing a word?

That's the question worth sitting with.

Your best prospects are already making a decision about you โ€” before you know they exist. Your website is in that meeting. The question is whether it's working for you or against you.

Nobody calls their telecoms provider and says "I'd like some SIP trunking please."

That's not how it works. And yet that's exactly how most reseller websites are written.

Open almost any homepage in this channel and you'll find the same thing โ€” a neat list of products. VoIP. UCaaS. SIP trunks. Mobile. Broadband. Connectivity.

All accurate. All completely irrelevant to how a prospect actually thinks when they land on your site.

Because they're not arriving with a product in mind. They're arriving with a problem.

"Our phone system is ancient and we've just heard about this PSTN switch-off."
"We're growing and the setup we have doesn't work anymore."
"Our IT guy left and nobody knows how anything is configured."

That's the conversation happening in their head. And most websites don't come close to addressing it.

The product is the solution. But you have to acknowledge the problem first โ€” or the prospect never gets that far.

Worth looking at your own homepage with this in mind. Not what you sell, but what problem it speaks to in the first few lines.

What does yours lead with?

20/07/2026

"Technology partner" isn't something you claim โ€” it's something your website either proves or undermines in the first few seconds. Most reseller sites are still doing the latter.
