📢 What do you need to know when you start a new company and file your first tax return?

💁Newly incorporated companies usually receive their first profits tax return from the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) within 18 months; companies filing their first tax return are entitled to a longer filing period (3 months) but cannot apply for an extension.

💁‍♀️For normal companies, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) usually issues tax forms to all companies in Hong Kong on the first working day of April each year. Upon receipt of the tax forms, companies should complete and return them to the IRD within one month from the date of issue. You can also apply for an extension through your tax representative.

❌NO! According to the press release issued by the Inland Revenue Department of Hong Kong (IRD) in April 2023, even a "No Operation Company" (or "Inactive Company", "Dormant Company") which does not have any operating activities, is required to submit audited financial statements and tax returns to the IRD, and is required to submit the Profit Tax Returns to the IRD for tax assessment within one month from the receipt of the Profit Tax Returns.
