Many thanks to everyone who came to the opening of "The World Trade Center: Before Memory" at HKI Gallery. It meant a great deal to share this first exhibition in our new space with you.

For those who couldn’t make it, the show is on through 31 October. We hope to see you here. You will see black-and-white photographs from the early 1990s, bringing us back to a New York in which the Twin Towers were still part of the everyday landscape.

Michelle Copini, a Dutch photographer based in Hong Kong, finds beauty in details as she wanders the world’s alleyways. Through her lens, weathered patinas reveal chronicles of the passage of time and humanity, while flakes of peeling paint evoke distant mountain peaks or vast oceans. Crumbling plaster transforms into landscapes of imaginings, inviting viewers to explore.

Copini’s photographic journey began when she inherited her father’s camera as a young teenager. Guided by instinct, she seeks out the the extraordinary within the ordinary, revealing hidden worlds beyond the mundane, infusing her work with deep colors and subtle shapes. Copini’s portfolio reflects a fusion of cultures, emotions, and memories—a visual tapestry woven from the threads of time. Copini’s work invites us to see beyond the surface, to discover magic in the overlooked and the fleeting.

Discover the photography of Chi Long Wu - a Hong Kong–based analogue photography enthusiast whose work examines the paradoxical relationship between society and nature. While landscapes form the foundation of his imagery, he is particularly drawn to the subtle and sometimes bold evidence of human presence that reveals how communities engage with their environments.

Working exclusively with photographic film, Wu’s practice is rooted in the craft of the darkroom. He is increasingly drawn to the expressive depth of black-and-white photography, producing all works as silver gelatin prints on traditional B&W paper or through the RA-4 colour process.
