๐ŸŒŠ Electric Boats: A Cleaner, Quieter Future for Our Oceans ๐ŸŒŠ

The broader environmental benefits of electric boating are not just about cutting CO2 โ€” electric propulsion helps protect in ways traditional boats simply canโ€™t.

๐ŸŽง Quiet Waters: Sound travels at least four times faster underwater than in air, disrupting marine ecosystems from large mammals to delicate crustaceans. Electric boats, however, offer a nearly silent alternative that preserves these fragile ecosystems.

๐Ÿ’ง Clean Waters: Beyond emissions, traditional fuel-powered boats leak oils and petrol into the water, polluting delicate marine habitats. Electric boats sidestep this pollution, offering a genuinely eco-friendly experience.

๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ Stunning Design: The Optima E10 isnโ€™t just sustainableโ€”itโ€™s beautiful. David and his team prioritized aesthetics and function, creating an electric boat thatโ€™s both a technological marvel and visually striking.

๐Ÿš€ Hope for the Future: David and Francesco envision a future where electric boats become mainstream in both leisure and commercial sectors. With ecotourism and sustainable fishing on the rise, the demand for clean, quiet boating solutions is set to grow. And soon, the Optima E14 will bring even more range and capability to this green revolution.

โšก๐ŸŒŠThe Logistics and Planning Behind a 3 GW Floating Wind Farm ๐ŸŒŠโšก

In our latest RAW Green episode๐ŸŽค ๐ŸŒต, Pellegrino Guerriero shares insights into the immense task of developing a three gigawatt floating wind farm. Here's a brief look at whatโ€™s involved:

From securing permits๐Ÿ“œ and designing crucial components like floaters and offshore substations, to handling procurement, construction, and installation, the work is extensive.

Pellegrino highlights the importance of precise timingโฐโ€”some suppliers are booked years in advance, making it crucial to plan well ahead.

Logistics are another major challenge.

๐ŸšขTransporting and assembling large components, selecting a port for turbine assembly, and coordinating marine vessels for installationโš“ are all part of the complex puzzle.

๐ŸŒ Anti-ESG in US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ vs EU ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

In our latest RAW GREEN ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŒต episode, we explored a contentious issue: the growing anti-ESG movement. But what's driving this resistance, and what are the implications for our future?

In the US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ , the backlash against hashtag investments is all about profit.
The argument? If an investment is profitable, who cares if it's not green? Should financial returns trump environmental and social responsibility? ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ’ต

On the flip side, Europe's ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ anti-ESG sentiment is fueled by regulatory overload. Companies are drowning in compliance, reporting, and certification requirements. Is Europe strangling innovation with red tape? ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ“‹

Wolfram Sparber suggests that Europe may be missing the mark by focusing too much on regulations and not enough on business opportunities. The energy and mobility transitions are massive business prospects. So why are we making it so hard to seize them? ๐ŸŒฑโšก

Lengthy approval processes and shifting laws make it very difficult to create solid business plans. How can we expect businesses to innovate under these conditions? Are we sabotaging our own progress? ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ

Wolfram makes a compelling case: this transition isn't just good for the environmentโ€”it's essential for Europe's geopolitical independence, economic stability, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”‹

Shouldn't we be acting faster? Why aren't we making it easier for businesses to lead this charge? The future of our planet and economy depends on it.

โ™ป What if a recycled product has a higher environmental impact than a virgin one? ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐ŸŒฟ Sustainability is both complex and fascinating because even identical products, produced sustainably, can yield vastly different impacts. ๐Ÿ“Š

Minor adjustments throughout a product's life cycle can lead to significant outcomes. โฌ… ๐Ÿ”„ โžก

๐Ÿ”” According to Dr. Alejandro Gallego Schmid, sustainability isn't black or white; it's actually, quite ironically, "grey."

๐Ÿ’กThat's why it's crucial to evaluate products on a case-by-case basis.

More than 29 million abandoned oil & gas wells worldwide! ๐Ÿ’ฃ ๐Ÿ’ฅ ๐Ÿ›‘

Only in the US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ , between 2 and 3 million, 40% of which according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are leaking methane ๐Ÿ’ญ .

๐Ÿ“Œ The list of environmental damages is quite extensive, and plugging a well costs in average $75.000 and in some cases over 1 Million US$. ๐Ÿ’ธ

What can we do about it?

How about repurposing this wells with geothermal power plants? ๐Ÿ’ก ๐Ÿš€

In the latest episode of Raw Green ๐ŸŽค ๐ŸŒต we sat down with Dr. Jingyi Li, postdoc researcher at the The University of Manchester, to discuss her latest research: the first ever full Life Cycle Assessment on repurposing oil & gas wells into geothermal power plants. ๐Ÿ” ๐Ÿ”„ ๐ŸŒ

What are the environmental impacts and savings in repurposing the wells compared to installing a brand new geothermal plant?

๐Ÿค– : Friend or Foe of Data Center Sustainability?

In the ongoing quest for data center sustainability, one question looms large: Is AI a friend or a foe? It's a complex issue. ๐Ÿ“Œ

On one hand, AI holds tremendous potential to aid in more accurate climate modeling, helping us better understand and mitigate environmental impacts. ๐ŸŒฑ ๐ŸŒ

According to a research from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Google, AI can help in reducing 5-10% GHG emissions by 2030, equal to approx. the entirety of the emissions from India. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ โœ…

On the other side, according to Google, an AI search consumes 10 times the amount of energy compared to a traditional Google search. ๐Ÿ“ˆ ๐Ÿšซ

So, where does that leave us?

๐ŸŒ Tackling Emissions: The Supply Chain Challenge

Whether you're in real estate or high-tech cars, roughly 90% of your emissions are from your . โ›“ ๐Ÿข ๐Ÿš˜

But here's the catch: getting data from suppliers isn't easy, for many reasons.

That's why it's crucial for big companies to bring their suppliers on board and walk the journey together, first by gathering data and then collaborate to reduce emissions.

๐Ÿ’ก 39% ๐Ÿ’ก

That is the share of global GHG emissions coming from the real estate market ๐Ÿข , divided in 28% from the operation of the buildings and 11% from the materials such as heavy hitters cement and steel.

Even so, according to a 2023 research from Van Lanschot Kempen, only 15% of listed companies worldwide have set clear and externally verified net zero targets that includes scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

Why is this the case? Isn't an efficient and sustainable property inherently more valuable? ๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿ“ˆ

In episode #010 of RAW GREEN ๐ŸŽค ๐ŸŒต , we will discuss this and more with Chungha Cha, co-founder of Reimagining Cities Foundation (https://www.re-cities.org/) and board member at Koramco based in Seoul, South Korea ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท
