Being doubtful happens so often, but what it takes for you to overcome your self-doubts and embracing them is the essential key to self-appreciation.
This year, Mannings asked Jay who fully embody this belief to share his personal story to inspire everyone to believe in themselves!
Posted • A few years back, I was in a dark place. I wasn’t sure if I was on the right career path. I even thought of giving up on music, and doing something entirely different with my life. I couldn’t help but to drown myself with negative thoughts and self-doubt, like I wasn’t good enough, or that my songwriting was incompetent, and that I had wasted so many years of my life devoting to this craft that most deemed useless.
But then one day, I met a porter on my hike up to Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Malaysia. His daily profession was to help assist us, hikers, with our bags on the way up and down the mountain. And so he would make his rounds up and down the mountain a few times a day, whilst being relatively underpaid for his intensive labour efforts. However, when speaking with this kind-hearted man, from the way he spoke about his family and the way he loved his job, you could tell that he had found happiness. And in that moment, I asked myself, isn’t happiness what life is all about? Don’t I deserve to be happy? So that’s when I decided that, regardless of where I was in my music career at that point, I should just continue to keep doing the things that made me happy, and music was a big part of it. So I kept writing, kept believing in myself, kept working harder, I did all I could to turn negativity to positivity, and I’m so blessed that I pulled through. And I have all of you, who helped me through this, to thank! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️
Through this experience, I learned that it’s important to accept yourself for all that you are, because inside each and every one of us, we have the ability to be strong, bold and beautiful, all we need to learn is to appreciate and trust ourselves ! Just like how always reminds us to “Remember you are more than good, you’re a ✨
