✨ FIKA, Koffiepauze & the Science of Returning to Focus✨
Across Sweden and the Netherlands, people take intentional pauses: FIKA or Koffiepauze. These aren’t just coffee breaks — they’re moments to reset, breathe, and bring our full attention back to the present.
In today’s fast-paced work environment, many of us switch tasks constantly. But when we jump from one thing to another without closure, something stays with us.
Professor Sophie Leroy calls this hashtag — the lingering thoughts and unfinished threads that make it harder to focus, think clearly, or perform at our best.
To manage this, Professor Leroy suggests a simple yet powerful habit:
🔄 The Ready-to-Resume Plan (3 Quick Questions). Before switching tasks, take 1–2 minutes to note:
1️⃣ Where was I?
Capture the last thought, decision, or part of the task you were working on.
2️⃣ What’s left to do?
List the next steps so your mind doesn’t keep holding onto them.
3️⃣ When I return, where do I start?
Choose your re-entry point so restarting becomes smooth and stress-free.
This tiny pause acts like a mini-FIKA for your brain — helping you reset your attention and return with clarity.
Intentional practices like this can make a big difference in how teams work, communicate, and thrive.
☕✨ Pause. Reset. Return with focus.
