We are proud to have participated in BEYOND Expo 2026 in Macao, marking our 6th consecutive year at this leading innovation event.

Held at The Venetian Macao from 27 to 30 May, this year's edition centred on the theme "AI: Digital to Physical," exploring how AI is moving from the digital world into real industrial scenarios.

Our Macao leaders, including Managing Partner Sidney Cheng, Audit & Assurance Partner Cally Kuan and Director Carmen Lei, joined the opening ceremony and engaged with global perspectives on AI, robotics, physical AI, AI agents and the future of capital connectivity.

We also hosted several delegations of invited guests, welcoming more than 200 participants in total, including member of Macao's Legislative Assembly, guests and entrepreneurs from the integrated resort, financial and technology sectors, and representatives from local associations and institutions.

The programme combined exhibition tours across embodied intelligence, smart mobility and enterprise AI agents, with a focused dialogue at the Global Investment Summit on the global investment outlook for AI. Guests engaged directly with founders, technical teams and global investors to explore where technology and capital are heading.

Anchored in Macao, connected to the Greater Bay Area and reaching out across the world, Deloitte will continue to act as a bridge, turning global innovation into tangible opportunities for the region's diversified development while advancing the national 15th Five-Year Plan and Macao's strategic priorities.

We were thrilled to collaborate with the Hong Kong Private Equity Finance Association (HKPEFA) to host a highly engaging seminar on ‘Shaping the future of Hong Kong’s asset management hub: Insights into fund tax enhancements and CRS implications for cross-border investors.’

Special thanks to Simon Ho, Board of Directors and chairman of HKPEFA, for co-organising this timely event and for his warm welcome remarks to Deloitte China speakers Eric Lam, partner, M&A Tax Services, Robin Choi, deputy leader, Global Employer Services (Hong Kong), and Edmond Lam, partner, International Tax Services.

Eric Lam: “The proposed expansions to the Unified Fund Exemption, particularly the inclusion of pension funds, endowment funds, and funds-of-one structures, and broadening the coverage of qualifying investments, particularly loans and private credits will significantly increase the appeal of Hong Kong as a fund domicile and provide greater flexibility for different investor types.”

We dove deep into two key proposals that are set to reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a premier global asset management hub:

▸ The unified fund exemption: streamlining tax treatment for qualifying funds

▸ The carried interest tax concession: attracting top-tier investment talent to our dynamic market

Robin Choi: “The recent PRC individual income tax administration trends under the CRS information exchange environment, together with the evolving development from CRS 1.0 to CRS 2.0—the next leap in global tax transparency—top talent and high-net-worth individuals revisiting compliance risk exposure becomes top priority.”

We also explored recent developments under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and their implications for individual income tax, especially for high-net-worth and cross-border taxpayers.

Edmond Lam: “With evolving CRS developments, investing funds and cross-border investors must stay proactive on reporting obligations and new requirements. Proper structuring and monitoring are now more critical than ever to manage compliance risks while capitalising on new opportunities.”

A big thank you to all participants for the lively discussions. Feel free to connect directly with our speakers if you’d like to explore how these proposed enhancements could benefit your fund or investment structure.
