Thanks Management It's Friday.

Except for a few industries, most clients have shared with me their challenges in this economic downturn and they conservatively speculate the trough may last for 4-5 years...at least.

In the Global Risks Report 2024 from the World Economic Forum ---
"As we enter 2024, 2023-2024 GRPS results highlight a predominantly negative outlook for the world over the next two years that is expected to worsen over the next decade (Figure A)."

"Extreme weather as the top risk most likely to present a material crisis on a global scale in 2024 (Figure B)"

There are many sayings around the surge of sudden deaths worldwide. Here's one saying. You can look up more:

Besides being an unpopular amplifier, here are my suggestions ---

I am a pessimistic optimist. I think with what's going on in the world, some of our systems may be permanently destroyed. So I think for every company, if you didn't restrategize your biz last few years, you should do it now. If you are a Group, it is time to reassess each business line and ops and decide which parts to spin-off, sell or monetize and how your bread and butter can be modernized through tech or trade finance in the new territories. If you are a single biz, consider merger or streamline. Reengineering is not new. Better face the pain now than later.

As for individuals, I think everyone should start building sustainable careerS. Some learned with me in workshops and coaching during 2020-2023 should revisit and refresh materials I had shared with you. The principles still stand:

1. Look at the megatrends. Ask yourself how they will impact you and where do you stand now?

2. Where do you want to be and what competencies do you need to keep, enhance and build to transform yourself in the future world?

3. Keep testing your ideas, skills till they give you greater assurance. Brace yourself with mental and psychological health so that you can surf through the increasing uncertain times.

Are you doped?

Let me go first. I am, I have been, heavily addicted to social media (both work and personal), short videos, online articles, youtube, instant text messages, instant translation, google map...basically more junk than I ever need. Who isn't, right? That's the way of life, one would say. I want to believe that I am a responsible user and let none of the above hijack my life. The truth is, when I trace and add up my hours, I am astonished. That explains a lot about my ability to focus, memory loss, make-belief depression and emptiness occasionally.

In a few hours' time, I will share with graduates about "Digital Presence". As I prepared for the webinar, I was once again forced to reflect on my own habits and what digital footprints I have been leaving behind. Am I making a good or bad impact to others? Even though the trillion posts/texts everyday swift by our scrolls could barely cause any harm...as if...I do not wish to suck in or release more useless thoughts or ideas that contaminate my mind or other people's mind.

Life is more than virtual media or work on my devices. Much more. We all know that. Just that when we get too hooked up, we get sucked in and lose the ability to quit. I am not better than a gambler or an alcoholic.

Without controllable use of digital, presence is artificial. I owe much thanks to numerous people (yes, real people!!) in my 23-day road trips with my husband that just ended, people who have shared joy, laughter and pain face-to-face. I could sense and feel you side-by-side. And when we were occupied with more meaningful things, we spared little time online. Simple shift, difficult change. For this, I should not declare yet another digital fast but aim to divert my energy and time into work that I will treasure.

*Movie posters - couldn't believe what used to be in movies fifteen, twenty years ago have become reality now. For better or worse, we do have free will. FYI, I smirked when Chat GPT took minutes to generate answers on some logical, moral questions that usually only humans would concern about. Ok, consultants or lawyers like me should survive a little longer as long as we still offer deep learning, deeper than machines created by men. Amen.

Even southern Chinese think and behave quite differently from northern Chinese in the country. Same goes to the U.S. I'm married to a southerner American. I love southerners but sometimes I still joke about their amicity. At times, they are "too friendly" or "too happy" and I don't know how to respond.

Daniel Goleman defines "social awareness" as the ability to accurately notice the emotions of others and “read” situations appropriately. It is about sensing what other people are thinking and feeling to be able to take their perspective using your capacity for empathy.

It is the sensitivity towards others and subtleties that we have to work on and then adapt to all these nuances. Many good leaders know and practice this already - they flex into others' styles. Many good Christians follow Paul's teaching in the Bible - to the weak I became weak, to win the weak. It is a very humbling and loving act when you yield yourself for the sake of others' comfort.

People ask me how I fetch very different kind of projects and find it hard to believe when I tell them they just happened. Then I tell them how I operate like a Venture Capitalist. I run many seed and start-up projects but only a few materialize and turn into healthy, growing businesses or products. So I ditch or get ditched for those that didnt work out as well. Yet at all times my counterparts are informed about the timeline and costs involved and usually I am the sole or major investor in projects. It is the same principle Steve Jobs called "Fail fast. Learn fast." Some say "Aim High" and you hit high on your goals even after discounted. And Austin Kleon call it "Productive Procrastination", same theory. You all know it. But only very few put it in practice.

As we approach year-end, it marks the perfect time for harvest and rest. Through Christmas where almost the whole world has celebrated for decades (commercially and spiritually), Christians come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. If He died without resurrected, He was no more than a man. If He judges as God, we will have no ground to stand. If He only asserts power in front of our eyes, we would think that he is just a great magician. If we really only live once, we do not have to fear God at all. What is Life?

Our Trinity God has shown us love, justice and mercy, time and time again. Salvation is now and forever. How long will you persist not believing? How long will you stay stubborn and blind? Do not test God or His patience. Let's beg that He stays patient enough for all sinners to repent and redeem His Grace.

As you feast, party and share wine with your friends and loved ones, do not forget who has created you, the world we live in and the free will He has given us as present for free. If you know and honor your mother who gave birth to you, would you not want to know and honor the One who has given you Life and eternal life?As for salvation, our Almighty God does ask you to accept Him as your only Savior before He can bless you and change you for good.

I was once lost...actually I was lost many times...and was found by Him each and every time. My Christmas wish for you, my friend and client, in this ever wavering and difficult world, is that you live life to the full through Him. Amen. Peace be with you, today and always. A gift has no value when the receiver refuses the giver.

《無為而治，悠然自得》

今年特別hea因為舊年冇機會本啤。年頭放兩個月大假，年底又放自己兩個月，8over12個月做嘢難怪友人話我退休上岸。No la, 生存喺呢個顛覆世代，只有隱憂沒有退休。Meta未mega身先士卒萬一，FTX可以一週玩完，真係俾獎金數百"億"當係碎銀，俾花生亦聞所未聞。我們一起去尿尿也臭出個名堂，我策略人家自然攬炒然後生。

講正經，世代越是歪曲悖謬，我哋越要難得胡塗。勤力不如勤思，曬命不如愛命。疫症出逆政，內卷會致命。躺平是暫緩，無補於事，正確取態係無為而治，無人駕駛先決條件就係以結果為目標，背後精湛工程設計，支撐住往後舒適。代代相傳嘅先苦後甜，好似已經失傳。呢兩年苦？還未到最苦! 勒緊褲頭，未雨綢繆，我做嘅Strategic alignment一定離唔開biz, people，順序。我唔平因為我唔係江湖郎中亂開藥，藥到病除發咗達嘅自然冇朋友，我睇得好開。但生意生意、生意養活百人千人，我係真心幫企業家、ExCo進步前行, 唔通真係貪你股份暴發等下世咩。

說到底我是令狐沖，生活好輕鬆。Radix七歲半，牌面平平無奇，私房菜食落津津有味。所以唔好再問我有咩招牌菜，點解咁多名品牌幫襯，多謝上天多謝大家囉。當然as leader要自强，先有力扶助他人。我亦真心推新星出爐，我比較鍾意幕後工作，安靜生活，說說笑笑玩玩。除非你有遠大心志，我嘅管理做人處事就係咁。啱嘅攞去用。唔啱嘅，請指教。2023，苦是必然，我陪你行啦，一齊橙就冇咁橙。明就明。

We asked 32 of our client Graduate Trainees on Aug 23, 2021 what they expected to see in their one-year Mentoring Program. Like most new joiners, they knew very little then but have been so very eager to learn more and adopt right away. So we asked them for feedback every single time and we offered our perspectives in every single session together. We spent extra time tossing around ideas and best possible delivery modes with OD experts and the Mentors of these Trainees. The progress and the outcomes after almost twelve months have paid off with tremendous growth and joy!

The word clouds are just tiny bits of the whole thing. Like how we often dwelled in so diligently, I don't think we have taken pictures of our own Work Team. Crazy. But all the Aha and fun moments stay vividly in my heart.

I want to thank Susanna, Alan, Woo, Amito, Ricky and Leo. The F2F, virtual, AR, food, tech hiccups, laughters...were all real. Thanks for making it happened and creating a spectacular experience for 32 future stars, 16 senior leaders and 3 people leaders. You guys are amazing! Love from Connie and always.
