When you watch a spy movie, CO2 is often the invisible clue that “someone was here.” That is no longer fiction – recent research in real smart collaboration spaces shows that CO2 combined with a simple motion sensor can detect human presence in enclosed rooms with high accuracy in practice.

In a university library setup, rising CO2 from human breathing proved a reliable proxy for room occupancy in enclosed study rooms, once ventilation patterns and sensor placement were taken into account. This science-backed approach offers a powerful shield for travelers worried about airborne viruses, PM2.5 pollutants, and odors, all without harmful ozone spikes.
