FROM ONE TREE TO 200,000 | OTHERLAND AT IFLA 2026 🌳

What does the future of urban tree stewardship look like?

At our IFLA 2026 Exhibition Forum on 30 October, Otherland explored this question at two very different scales.

At the city scale, our Digital Tree Platform connects approximately 200,000 trees across Hong Kong through QR-coded tree labels and digital information, supported by GIS-integrated tools for tree management and public engagement.

And this is only the beginning.

Building on this experience, Otherland is developing our Digital Tree Platform as a service for wider application, bringing together tree information, digital access and landscape management in one evolving platform.

OTHERLAND AT IFLA 2026 | SHAPING THE CONGRESS, SHARING OUR VISION

For IFLA 2026, Otherland’s involvement went beyond sponsorship.

As a Silver Sponsor, we were proud to support the international landscape community coming together in Hong Kong. More importantly, members of our practice took an active role in shaping the Congress itself.

Our Director, , served as Congress Chair, leading the 62nd IFLA World Congress in Hong Kong and contributing across its Public Relations, Marketing & Promotion and Communication Committees.

The Baptist Hung Hin Shiu Rainbow Primary School,

We are pleased to celebrate the completion of the new campus for The Baptist Hung Hin Shiu Rainbow Primary School in Kai Tak.

Conceived as a landscape that nurtures learning, curiosity, and wellbeing, the design translates the district's distinctive identity into a series of fluid spatial experiences. Inspired by the dynamic energy of Kai Tak, sweeping landscape forms unfold as Energy Swirls, echoing the organic rings of a growing tree and symbolising continuous development and discovery.

A second layer of inspiration emerges from the school's values of spiritual growth and diversity. Harmonious geometries, vibrant planting, and a carefully curated palette work together to create an inclusive environment where education, play, and community intersect.

Delivered in collaboration with ADRG for ASD, the approximately 6,000m² campus establishes a memorable setting for the next generation to learn, connect, and flourish.

好多時候去旅行時，我哋都會「打卡」一啲有特色嘅渠蓋細節 — 而家唔使出國，喺香港都有得「打卡」啦！
由渠務署舉辦嘅「好蓋有您」渠務署特色渠蓋設計比賽，將本來純功能性嘅渠蓋設施，變成結合地區特色同文化元素嘅城市地標，鼓勵參加者以18區為主題，設計出一系列與各區獨有景物互相呼應嘅特色渠蓋。
而我哋作為景觀顧問，好榮幸可以參與其中，將得獎作品實體化及細緻化，令設計「落地」喺城市不同角落，為日常街道增添一點驚喜，同時連結工程同城市空間體驗。

When travelling, we’re always on the lookout for those little “Instagrammable moments” — even in the details of unique manhole covers. And now, you can do the same right here at home!
Organised by the Drainage Services Department, the “Creative Manhole Covers” Design Competition transforms purely functional drainage infrastructure into urban landmarks that reflect local character and cultural identity. Inspired by Hong Kong’s 18 districts, these designs bring each neighbourhood’s distinctive stories to life.
As landscape consultants, we’re proud to be part of this journey — helping turn winning designs into real, buildable features across the city. These small yet thoughtful details add moments of surprise to our everyday streets, connecting engineering with the public realm experience.
