On September 26th, 2024, we were honored to attend the Industry Cares Recognition Scheme 2024 Presentation Ceremony and represent Link-Pro CPA Limited.

We have participated for five consecutive years and being acknowledged for this year’s theme: ‘Adaptibility and Collaboration for a Better Tomorrow’ as one of the 115 companies is something we are extremely grateful for. To achieve this goal of fulfilling social responsibilities, this was done by positively impacting CSR initiatives, and helping those in need of which we take tremendous pride in.

During the ceremony Chris Sun (secretary for labor and welfare) showed his grateful appreciation for the companies reaching their social responsibilities. He highlighted the increasing importance of CSR and how us among other companies help those in need and make the city an overall better place to live.

Some of the remarks to show our contribution to CSR include commitment to 60 hours of self-organised activities whilst also participating in more than 500 hours’ worth of activities for other events.

Link-Pro CPA Limited offer youth internships to those in secondary school that struggle financially or have learning difficulties to give them a chance to learn how to do accounting and audit which can help them for the future.

Introduction
The Employees Retraining Board (ERB) launched the “ERB Manpower Developer Award Scheme” (the Scheme) to recognise organisations which demonstrate outstanding achievements in manpower training and development as Manpower Developers (MDs). Around 500 organisations from over 30 industries have been accredited as MDs under the Scheme.

As part of the Scheme, the effectiveness of the strategies and practices in manpower training and development of participating organisation will be reviewed and evaluated in accordance with a set of objectives and assessment criteria established by the independent Technical Consultant. Organisations that fulfill the criteria will be acknowledged as MDs within a two-year validity period, subject to renewal every two years. Current MDs that have been granted the award status for 10 consecutive years will be acknowledged as “Super MDs”. The validity period will be extended from two years to five years.

Through the Scheme, ERB aims to cultivate a common social value of attaching great importance to manpower training and development, and foster strategic partnership with MDs through various employer activities for enhancing the quality of human resources in Hong Kong.

We joined ERB Youth Internship Programme in 2023 Summer, the HKU students gained hands-on experience in the professional CPA firm. Their professors and students had an informative sharing on the wide spectrum of cloud accounting software- Xero and vibrant CPA life.

After these Internship, parents and students discovered that accounting is beyond debit and credit, and encompasses different facets and logical thinking of our daily lives. It’s an exciting direction for their study and career exploration.

2020/21 Hong Kong Budget Speech Highlights

Financial Secretary Mr. Paul Chan delivered the budget speech on February 26th, 2020. After 15 years of budget surplus 2019/20 ended in $3.6 billion deficit, caused by unfavourable social and economic climates. The following 2020/21 is forecasted to remain challenging, with $139 billion budget deficit forecasted.

The 2020/21 budget was tailored with focuses on supporting enterprises, safeguarding jobs, smoothening livelihoods, and stimulating the economy. With these focuses, there are quite numbers of incentives and relief measures offered by the government to support Hong Kong economy. The key highlights to be noted in the budget speech are:

• Cash disbursement of $10,000 to Hong Kong permanent residents aged 18 or above.

• Profit tax, salary tax, and personal assessed tax reductions for 2019/20 by 100%, with $20,000 ceiling.

• Domestic properties rates waivers for 4 quarters of 2020/21, with $1,500 ceiling / quarter.

• Non-domestic properties rates waivers for 4 quarters of 2020/21 – with $5,000 ceiling / quarter for the first 2 quarters, and $1,500 ceiling / quarter for the remaining 2 quarters.

• Introduce full government guaranteed low interest loan for enterprises, with maximum loan amount of $2 million with up to 3 years repayment period and moratorium on principal repayment for the first 6 months.

• Business registration fee waiver for 2020/21.

• Company annual return waiver for 2 years.

• Subsidise 75% of electricity charge for non-residential, with $5,000 ceiling per month.

• Subsidise 75% of water and sewage charges for non-domestic household for 4 extra months, with $20,000 and $12,500 ceilings per month, respectively.

Hong Kong Tax
It is said that the reason behind the forecasted deficits from 2021/22 to 2024/25 financial years, are because the government revenue could not keep up with the expenditures. To address this, the government needs to seek new sources of revenue or revise the tax rates. The government will also look for advices from relevant subject matter experts, regarding tax regime in respond of the OECD’s setting to impose a global minimum tax rate.
