In addition to the visa-free travel announced in July this year, this week Last week, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and South Korea all learnt they had visa-free travel to China.

This will make it considerably easier for tourists and short-term business travellers who can now simply arrive in the country without having to go through the rather arduous process of applying for a Chinese visa. This is good news for the many hotels & resorts that were opened in the past 20-odd years. In China's 30 years march to become a developed nation, 3 years of lockdown was just a blip.

The rise of a thriving middle-income group and the easing of travel restrictions for Chinese citizens and foreign visitors have contributed to the rapid growth of both inbound and outbound tourism.

SHANGHAI's SHOW CASE - While world leaders toasted at the 7th China Investment & International Trade Expo (CIIE) to the benefits of global trade, mutual understanding and corporation, the USA has a new President Elect, and Europe's largest economy Germany has a government crisis. It does seem that luxury hospitality is also on a cross roads, where it is all about the economy. HELLO HANOI - One of the still lasting effects of the Corona period is the lack of direct flights. As there was no direct flight from Nha Trang to Hong Kong, I had to make a stopover in Hanoi. An excellent chance see some old & new hotels, and meet old & new faces. The last time I was in Hanoi, was in 2019. Compared to cities in China, little had changed in Vietnam's capital, but change is a constant in this business, nonetheless.
