Benefits of composting:

🌱Organic waste in landfills generates, methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By composting wasted food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced.

🌱Compost reduces and in some cases eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers.

🌱Compost promotes higher yields of agricultural crops.

🌱Compost can help aid reforestation, wetlands restoration, and habitat revitalization efforts by improving contaminated, compacted, and marginal soils.

🌱Compost can be used to remediate soils contaminated by hazardous waste in a cost effective manner.

🌱Compost can provide cost savings over conventional soil, water and air pollution remediation technologies, where applicable.

🌱Compost enhances water retention in soils.

🌱Compost provides carbon sequestration.

🔵Kingfishers eat mainly fish, chiefly minnows and sticklebacks, but they also take aquatic insects, freshwater shrimps and tadpoles.
🟠They close their eyes as they dive into the water, so they are fishing blind! They bob their heads before diving to accurately judge the depth of the fish.
🔵Kingfisher courtship occurs in spring. The male will approach the female with a fish in his beak. He will hold it so that the head of the fish is facing outwards and attempt to feed it to the female. If he is unsuccessful he will simply eat the fish himself.
🟠A kingfisher pair dig a nest tunnel in vertical, sandy river banks. The nest chamber at the end has a slight depression to prevent eggs rolling out, but no material is brought into the nest.
🔵The first clutch of 6-7 eggs is laid in late March or in early April. Each chick can eat 12-18 fish a day meaning the adults may catch over 120 fish each day for their brood.
Chicks are fed in rotation. Once a chick is fed, it moves to the back of the nest to digest its meal, causing the others to move forward.
🟠Once out of the nest, the young are fed for only four days before the adults drive them out of the territory and start the next brood. 2-3 broods are often raised in a breeding season.
🔵The design of a kingfisher’s beak is aerodynamically efficient, allowing it to dive from speed and minimum splash

There are thousands of types of dahlias
There are 30 species and over 20,000 cultivars of dahlias. Those cultivars are categorized based on size, flower pattern, and how they resemble other flowers (like waterlilies, anemones, and cactus blooms). The large decorative types and cactus types are among the most popular, and many varieties are used in cut flower gardens.

2. Dahlias were originally classified as a vegetable
Dahlias are named after 18th-century Swedish botanist Anders Dahl. He actually categorized dahlias as a vegetable because of their edible tubers. The tubers are said to taste like a mix between potatoes and radishes (although, we haven’t tried it to confirm!).

3. People use dahlias at weddings for their symbolism
They are common wedding flowers, not only for their looks but also for their symbolic meaning. During the Victorian era, dahlias were a symbol of commitment and an everlasting union. They are also used to represent inner strength, creativity, and elegance.

Lenticular Clouds are stationary lens-shaped clouds, technically known as Altocumulus lenticularis. They look so alien, they even have been offered as an explanation for some unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings.

Lenticular Clouds form at high altitudes: at the low altitudes, obstacles like hills, mountains, or even human-made objects i.e. tall buildings, bridges disrupt the flow of air into eddies. But, at high altitudes, where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side. If the temperature at the crest of the wave drops to the dew point, moisture in the air may condense to form lenticular clouds ☁️

68 PERCENT OF PLANTS ARE IN DANGER OF GOING EXTINCT
While scientists have only examined a fraction of the existing known plant species, of those that have been studied, 68 percent face extinction in the not too distant future.

Since plants can’t just up and move as their habitat is being destroyed, they are even more vulnerable than endangered animals.🌱

The Manta Ray:
•For decades, scientists thought there was just one species of manta ray. In 2008, researchers discovered that there are actually two distinct species: the reef manta ray, which tends to live along coastlines in the Indo-Pacific, and the giant oceanic manta ray, which lives in all the world’s major oceans, spending most of its life far from land.
•Both species of manta ray are filter feeders: they swim with their mouths wide open, drawing in zooplankton and krill, which they sift through rows of tiny rakes that line their mouths called gill plates.
•Manta rays make regular visits to cleaning stations—spots on a coral reef where sea animals go to be cleaned by smaller creatures.
•Manta rays have the largest brain-to-size ratio of any cold-blooded fish. Studies have shownthat manta rays may recognize themselves in the mirror, an ability indicative of high cognitive function, also shown by dolphins, primates, and elephants.
