The HKICPA leadership and Council has completed a four-day visit to Beijing and Shanghai. The highly productive agenda not only continued the Institute’s tradition of annual visits to Beijing but also, for the first time in years, included Shanghai, further strengthening collaboration in the Yangtze River Delta region and achieving significant milestones that strengthen collaboration with Chinese Mainland counterparts while laying a solid foundation for members’ future development 🌐. Despite the tight schedule, the group attended the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square, where this iconic national event offered a solemn moment to deepen appreciation of the nation’s history, development, and patriotic spirit.
In Beijing, the delegation held intensive meetings with the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the IFRS Foundation Beijing Office, and the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Discussions focused on industry development, regulatory policies, talent cultivation, and sustainability, yielding valuable insights and consensus.
In Shanghai, the delegation met with the Shanghai United Front Work Department, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Shanghai Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Shanghai National Accounting Institute. Exchanges centered on capital market connectivity between Shanghai and Hong Kong, supporting enterprises in expanding overseas, and nurturing cross-border accounting talent 🤝.
A highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Shanghai Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The agreement covers collaboration in talent exchange, coordinated development, resource sharing, and industry cooperation. This marks another milestone in HKICPA’s Mainland cooperation network, following similar agreements with associations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Greater Bay Area, and Chongqing.
The delegation also hosted networking dinners in both cities, welcoming over 160 guests, including government officials, representatives from partner universities and Authorized Employers (AE), members and QP graduates. The lively atmosphere fostered meaningful exchanges, strengthened stakeholder connections, and effectively communicated HKICPA’s latest initiatives.
Through meticulous planning and coordination, the visit exceeded expectations and reinforced HKICPA’s commitment to creating more opportunities for members and contributing to national development. 🚀
