🎮 MEMORY ESCAPE is an Interreg Italy–Croatia project that aims to engage young people with dissonant heritage through innovative phygital escape room experiences combining historical research, storytelling and digital technologies.

🌍 The partnership includes the City of Labin (Lead Partner), the Municipality of Bertinoro, ATRIUM and KALIMERA, working together to transform dissonant heritage into engaging educational experiences for young people.

🧩Završili smo prvi draft blueprinta za MEMORY ESCAPE phygital escape room iskustva, koji je trenutno u procesu peer review evaluacije i stručne recenzije.

Kroz međunarodni co-design proces u Labinu i Bertinoru, zajedno s mladima, stručnjacima i partnerima razvijali smo inovativni model koji povezuje kulturnu baštinu, storytelling, gamifikaciju i digitalne alate u interaktivna edukativna iskustva.

Draft blueprinta definira narativnu strukturu, gameplay logiku, phygital interakcije i metodologiju za razvoj escape room iskustava inspiriranih disonantnom baštinom Italije i Hrvatske.

Projekt MEMORY ESCAPE istražuje kako se složene povijesne teme mogu približiti mladima kroz kreativnost, suradnju i immersive learning pristup.🧩

🧩 We have completed the first draft of the blueprint for the MEMORY ESCAPE phygital escape room experiences, which is currently undergoing peer review and expert evaluation.

Through an international co-design process in Labin and Bertinoro, together with young people, experts and project partners, we developed an innovative model that combines cultural heritage, storytelling, gamification and digital tools into interactive educational experiences.

The draft blueprint defines the narrative structure, gameplay logic, phygital interactions and methodology for developing escape room experiences inspired by the dissonant heritage of Italy and Croatia.

MEMORY ESCAPE project explores how complex historical topics can be brought closer to young people through creativity, collaboration and immersive learning approaches. 🧩

📚 What is dissonant heritage?

It refers to places, histories and memories that can be complex or contested, often linked to difficult pasts and interpreted in different ways.

🏛️ The ATRIUM Cultural Route, including cities such as and , explores heritage related to 20th-century totalitarian regimes.
🧩 In the MEMORY ESCAPE project, this heritage becomes the basis for developing escape room narratives, combining storytelling, gamification and critical reflection. The aim is to engage young people in understanding and reinterpreting these complex histories, fostering awareness and promoting European democratic values.

This week, we successfully launched a series of online workshops, bringing together trainers and experts from Italy and Croatia 🇮🇹🇭🇷

The focus of these sessions has been on preparing the implementation of co-design workshops with young people and interdisciplinary experts from both countries.

Through collaboration and shared perspectives, we are laying the groundwork for meaningful and creative outcomes.

Over the coming weeks, co-design workshops will take place in Labin and Bertinoro. The goal? To develop two unique escape room scenarios exploring the theme of dissonant heritage of the 20th century in Croatia and Italy.

We’re excited to see how these ideas evolve and how young voices contribute to rethinking and engaging with complex historical narratives.

The MEMORY ESCAPE project – “Adriatic memory escape: A phygital tool for engaging youth with dissonant heritage” – is an 18-month initiative developed within the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, Specific Objective 4.1: Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion, and social innovation.

Through collaboration, innovation, and youth engagement, we aim to create new ways of understanding and experiencing dissonant heritage across the Adriatic region. ☺️
