Yesterday I uploaded a photo from the set I'm working on, and I also uploaded the same photo to Twitter (I normally don't upload there). I was surprised to see that the Twitter version was considerably desaturated but also much sharper. I also noted that the Facebook photo, when not maximized, had really poor compression, which made me revisit what I know about colour profiles on the web, and learn more about how each site shows the image. I combined the two examples to compare, check it out. You'll only see the compression difference if you click on the image and then click the arrows in the upper right corner to maximize it:
