Unfortunate incident in "Splitske vrata"!

I express my condolences to the families of the victims. This is the biggest tragedy of its kind after the collision of the Horvatinčić with the Italian sailboat.

Many friends called me and asked for my opinion on what caused the unfortunate incident and who is to blame. At this moment, it is a million-dollar question. Reliable information is trickling out at a drop of water. It is not enough to give a reliable opinion, but that does not stop some "experts" from speculating. The rules on avoiding collisions at sea Colreg are very clear, but at this moment we do not know what happened to be able to draw conclusions. At least I do not know, and I have read all the available information. We do not know the speeds of the vessels and we do not know the courses, which is crucial. The VTS analysis and the statements of the crews will be the first concrete indicators of how the unfortunate incident occurred.

I think everyone should be patient and let the institutions do their job and not point fingers and look for Pedro, who in the end may not be guilty.

I absolutely support the statement of Harbor Master Kuštera who says: "What exactly happened will be determined by the investigation. We have minute-by-minute records of the movements of all vessels, and this will help us get answers."

Pleasant conversations!

Tonight in Split I hosted Marijan Dželalija, the director of GrECo Marina, a leading insurance broker. A working dinner was arranged in Poreč during the presentation of the GrECo maritime sector, for which Marijan is responsible, and we realized it tonight. The pleasant gathering was an opportunity to exchange opinions on maritime insurance in the Adriatic. We also talked about possible cooperation. We concluded that there is excellent potential and mapped out the first steps of future cooperation. Of course, both of us are aware that nothing happens overnight.

For those who don't know, GrECo is a family company with 101 years of experience that has expanded its business from Austria to 21 countries in which it has 73 offices, employs 1,500 people, has 191,000,000 euros in revenue and 1,800 million euros in written premiums. I can only say one word. Respect!

The next meeting has been arranged in Poreč and I am looking forward to it.

Sunseeker 68 Manhattan!

Yesterday I did an inspection of the Sunseeker 68 Manhattan yacht. As I proudly said several times that we have been working with Sunseeker yachts since 2008, since then I have inspected many of their yachts. The innovativeness of their designers constantly amazes me.

What is specific about the inspected yacht. Although it is 18.21 meters long, it provides passengers with incredible comfort. Namely, a layout with three passenger cabins is common for yachts of that length. On the inspected Manhattan, the designers designed 4 passenger cabins and the skipper's cabin. In the forward part of the lower deck on the bow is a comfortable VIP cabin with its own sanitary facilities, then on the right side there are public sanitary facilities that service two cabins with separate berths in the part towards the stern. In the salon on the left side there are separate stairs that lead to the lower deck to the spacious so-called Master cabin. From the aft platform is the entrance to the skipper's cabin with two beds and a spacious bathroom.

There are other innovative solutions, but this is the most impressive in my opinion. Of course, as the song says, "no one has ever drunk a glass of honey without making it bitter with a glass of gall," you gain something and lose something. The engine room space has been used to the maximum. The engine room has two powerful MAN V8 engines, each with a power of 1200 hp, a generator, a watermaker and other equipment. I was also surprised by the two gyro stabilizers, which really performed their function well. During the test drive, the wind was blowing and the sea was wavy. We tested the ride with and without the stabilizers. It was incredible how they stabilized the yacht after switching it on. A loaded engine room does not pose a problem for passengers, but the service technicians are certainly not happy working in the engine room, as I was not at my 190 cm and 135 kilos.

During the inspection, I sent a WA message to my friend Mario regarding the engine room. The answer came quickly. "We should have hired some little Filipino as a surveyor. 😂". Of course he made me laugh.

We are not aware how good we are!

My friend who is handling fleet of big yachts wanted reflag yacht 24 meters plus to British Virgin Island. For this is required yacht inspection. He was asking administration who can do this in Croatia. Administration answer is on picture below.

Interesting is that we did not know that we are approved by BVI administration.

GrECo - a new player in the boat insurance market!

GrECo Group is a leading independent risk consultant and insurance broker in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. GrECo is not a new player in Croatia. They have been operating here since 1995 and have three offices. In Zagreb, Rijeka and Osijek. So far, they have not had a major breakthrough in boat insurance, what has changed with the opening of the office in Poreč.

As one of the stakeholders of the yacht industry, we received an invitation to attend the inauguration of a new project related to yacht insurance. The invitation was sent to us by Marijan Đelalija, Director of GrECo Marina - Poreč branch. We did not hesitate for a moment whether to go to Poreč or not and support the project with our presence. We know Marijan from his first steps in boat insurance and it is a pleasure to see how far he has come. Respect.

The event itself, called SET SAIL LAUNCH EVENT, was held in a beautiful resort on the island of Sveti Nikola. The group's top people gave welcoming speeches, and Marijan said a few words about the plans and introduced his team.

The gathering was pleasant. It was a pleasure to meet colleagues that we hear from but don't see often. The inevitable topic was the upcoming season and the challenges that come with it. We are all moderately optimistic and we hope that our optimism is not without foundation. On the sidelines, we also touched upon possible cooperation with Marijan. Since there was no time for business talks, we agreed to continue in Split.

GrECo Marine has set sail and we wish it a successful voyage guided by the safe hand of Captain Marijan.

Inspection of yacht "C" 24 meters long for insurance extension and valuation in Tivat

Yacht "C" is a Canadian built West Bay shipyard, model 78 SonShip. We performed the review and appraisal at the request of AssuredPartners of Florida LLC. We found the yacht in excellent condition even though it is 25 years old. I have to praise the Croatian sailors again. Admittedly, there is only one on the ship, but it is worth it 🙂. Captain Marino Stura, although at the moment he is alone, he has everything under control. When I see what he has done, I can only say that he has two golden hands.

Director is coming back!

Today, the director of the company Maritimus Consultant, PhD Bruna Bacalja Bašić, and myself, procurator of the same company visited the boat show in Marina Baotić. Bruna is halfway through her maternity leave but is already preparing to return to help us with our daily tasks.

A few words about the fair. To my delight, because this is also our local fair, I am happy to see that it is getting better every year. This is its third edition. This year, more than 200 boats are exhibited at the fair and over 150 exhibitors are exhibiting. In addition to the exhibited vessels, various presentations and workshops are held at the fair, which makes it indispensable for the English would say "yachting professionals".

What does the fair mean for us at Maritimus? We have a rounded portfolio and we do not expect any new partners or jobs. We communicate with our partners most often electronically or via mobile communications, and the fair is an opportunity to meet "face to face", exchange a few words and very often have a glass of quality wine. No virtual communication can replace that.

It was a pleasure to greet Mr. Baotić, meet Mr. Janković, quickly arrange a job with Franz from Master Yachting, praise the team from Frank Marina, chat with colleagues from Palubum, Marko from Euromarina, Mrs. Čalić from Navela, the striking crew of Nava, dear Gapi, Daniel from Wind, Saša from Opus, Domeniko....

A rarity. Obrt Sustavi Janković, an indispensable station when it comes to refrigeration technology on ships and yachts, is not even close to the sea. It is located in the small picturesque village of Hrvace, from which employees of Čistoća were once recruited, and today high tech comes from Hrvace when it comes to refrigeration technology. ASI and LL inspection on 40 meters motor yacht

Today, at the request of the International Yacht Bureau from Boca Raton, America, we conducted two inspections on the motor yacht "Liquid Rehab". We conducted an underwater inspection on the same yacht in October last year as well. The yacht is 40 meters long and was built in the American shipyard Westport Yachts. The yacht is crewed by a Croatian crew and it was a pleasure to see the teamwork under the command of Cap. Supe from Zadar.

I have always said about our sailors, to whom I belong, that they are "Simple the best"!
