Croatian territory is now once again connected by road, and this is a moment of joyful happiness for every Croatian person. This has allowed us to guarantee for our future generations the important link between the south of Croatia and the rest of the country. Generations of Croatians have dreamed of this day. Pelješac Bridge serves as a monument to the first decade of Croatia’s membership in the European Union as well as the best possible answer to those who question membership in this body, which serves as a bastion for rule of law, human rights, democracy -- the very ideals that make us European, and ones that are being challenged in the world even today.

In a year when we are awaiting both the introduction of the Euro and also entry into the Schengen Area, the christening of Pelješac Bridge brings with it the consolidation of our sovereignty. This bridge allows the Croatian people to realize our sovereign and fundamental right of access to all of our Croatian territory. This truly is a huge day for Croatia. 🇭🇷 ❤️ 🇪🇺

Once home to the Zrinski counts, this castle now lies in ruins not far from Zagreb...

Long ago in Sveta Helena, a village 30 kilometers from Zagreb, there used to be an estate fully equipped with a castle, chapel, and amazing park. All that remains of this today are ruins that serve as a testimony to the days when noblemen like the Adamović Čepinski family and Count Nikola Zrinski spent their time here.

Records of the Sveta Helena estate can be traced to the early 13th century. The castle was also mentioned in some sources from the 17th century, but no information on how it looked has been preserved. In 1623, owner Nikola Zrinski used Sveta Helena along with Majkovec and Šenkovec as collateral for 4,000 imperials from the nobleman Koczy.

Sveta Helena was also mentioned as being part of the Zrinski estate when his property was seized after the failed Magnate Conspiracy (Zrinski-Frankopan Conspiracy) in 1671. The estate was then owned by nobleman Ivan Saić of Pernica. After his daughter, Judita, married Ivan Kapistran I. Adamović around 1760, Sveta Helena was transferred to Slavonian noblemen and barons of the Adamović Čepinski family. The estate was mostly wetland and was used to grow h**p.

NIKOLA TESLA was born on this day 165 years ago in Smiljan, Croatia.

When Henry Ford died, it was big news. Cars stopped in the streets for a minute to remember the innovator. When Thomas Edison died, they dimmed the lights for a short period of time to honor him. But if you think about it, Edison’s direct current has come and gone and electric automobiles (like those bearing Tesla's name) are now seen as the future, and Ford as the past. Tesla was ahead of his time because the technology he developed is being used now and will continue to be used in the future. But when Tesla died, nothing happened. There were no memorials, the president didn’t speak, they didn’t dim any lights, they didn’t mute radio broadcasts, no one stopped cars.
Nevertheless, Tesla’s technology reigns today while the other technologies fade. Justice, though, sometimes comes in time.
