Have you ever been asked to provide a “certified translation” and wondered what that actually means?
Most people only come across this term when they are already in the middle of an official process—applying for a visa, submitting documents abroad, enrolling in an institution, or handling legal paperwork.
A certified translation is simply a translation that has been officially verified by a sworn court interpreter. In Croatia, court interpreters are licensed by the Ministry of Justice, and their role is to confirm that the translation matches the original document.
What makes it special is not only the translation itself, but the official certification that comes with it.
A certified translation usually includes:
• the translated document
• the original text
• an official certification page
• a registered reference number
All pages are bound together and sealed with an official stamp and ribbon. It may look formal, but this structure is what makes the document legally valid in Croatia and abroad.
Sometimes, depending on the country or institution, an additional Apostille may also be required.
If you are ever preparing documents for use internationally, this is one of those things that tends to appear sooner or later in the process.
When it does, it's good to know what you're dealing with — and who to call.
