Offshore wind is more than energy. It’s an opportunity for people, businesses and territories!

How can Puglia turn the potential of offshore wind into new opportunities for local development? And what skills and collaborations are needed to make it happen?

📍 On 28 October in Taranto, ARTI - as partner of the ADRIONWIND project - is organising a Capacity Building Programme to explore these questions and discuss the future of offshore wind in the Mediterranean.

From floating offshore wind and the role of ports and maritime services to the environmental, social and economic impacts of the energy transition, the programme will explore the challenges and opportunities shaping this emerging value chain.

🤝 At the heart of the initiative is peer-to-peer learning: sharing experiences, knowledge and good practices to learn from one another, build connections and identify new opportunities for collaboration.

Because accelerating the energy transition also means strengthening skills, connecting expertise and creating new opportunities for our territories.

🇦🇱🌊 Albania is an emerging participant in the Adriatic–Ionian offshore wind ecosystem, and its national pathway reflects that position honestly. Rather than competing on technology development, it concentrates on building the institutional, human and digital conditions that any future offshore activity depends on — the work that has to happen first, wherever a project is eventually built. ⚡

🤝 Albania has selected four of the seven shared regional priorities — Joint Pilot, Demonstration and Applied Innovation Projects (4), Offshore Workforce Development and Skills Transition (5), Coordinated Governance and Environmental Planning (6), and Digital Cooperation and Smart Offshore Systems (7). The proposed actions cover participation in regional pilots and marine environmental monitoring, training for SMEs, technical professionals and public authorities, the gradual development of maritime spatial planning and environmental assessment capacity, and GIS-supported planning and data-sharing tools. None of it requires a wind farm to begin. 💡🌍

What skills, knowledge and partnerships will help unlock the potential of the Adriatic-Ionian blue economy?

📍 On 23 October in Brindisi, ADRIONWIND will be part of the conversation at SNIM - Salone Nautico di Puglia (https://www.facebook.com/salonenauticopuglia), within the Forum “Restare, Crescere, Salpare” promoted by Regione Puglia.

Organised by ARTI, the event will bring the project’s perspective on offshore wind energy into a wider discussion on skills, training and professional opportunities in the blue economy.

💡 Because sustainable growth takes more than technology: it needs people with the right skills, businesses ready to innovate, and stronger connections between education, research, industry and institutions.

It is also where floating technology for Mediterranean deep water is moving from research towards deployment. ⚡

“Offshore Wind Energy Capacity Building Programme on Soft Skills for Stakeholders and SMEs”

🇭🇷🌊 Croatia's contribution to the Adriatic–Ionian offshore wind ecosystem is rooted in what the country already does well: shipbuilding, metalworking, marine engineering and electrical equipment manufacturing, ports and coastal logistics, and a strong ICT base for digital twins, GIS and smart monitoring. Research capacity in engineering, energy systems and marine sciences completes the picture. ⚡

🤝 Croatia has selected five of the seven shared regional priorities — Regional Offshore Supply-Chain and Industrial Integration (2), Cross-Border Grid, Port and Infrastructure Transformation (3), Joint Pilot, Demonstration and Applied Innovation Projects (4), Offshore Workforce Development and Skills Transition (5), and Digital Cooperation and Smart Offshore Systems (7). The proposed actions map Croatian maritime industry into regional value chains, assess port readiness for offshore logistics and assembly, open the door to transnational pilots, reskill professionals from adjacent maritime sectors, and bring Croatian SMEs into digital offshore services. 💡🌍

🌬️⚡ The ADRIONWIND Joint Transnational Research & Innovation Strategy is complete. Built from six national context analyses — Croatia, Italy, Greece, Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina — it identifies seven shared regional priorities for offshore wind in the Adriatic–Ionian area: floating offshore wind adapted to Mediterranean conditions; regional supply-chain and industrial integration; cross-border grid, port and infrastructure transformation; joint pilot, demonstration and applied innovation projects; offshore workforce development and skills transition; coordinated governance and environmental planning; and digital cooperation and smart offshore systems. 🌊🌍

🤝 Shared does not mean identical. Our six countries differ in market maturity, infrastructure and institutional capacity, and the Strategy treats that diversity as complementarity rather than as a gap to be closed. Each country selected the priorities that match its real capabilities and stage of development — so one transnational strategy is delivered through six national pathways. Over the coming weeks we will publish each of them in turn. 📍

Project Meeting Overview | ADRIONWIND Partners Gather in Athens
On 14–15 July 2026, ADRIONWIND project partners gathered in Athens, Greece, for the latest Transnational Project Meeting, kindly hosted by our Greek partners. 🤝
During the two-day meeting, consortium members reviewed the progress achieved across the project's work packages, discussed the development of the Offshore Wind Energy Collaboration Network and the Transnational Research & Innovation Strategy, evaluated communication and financial management activities, and planned the next phase of implementation.
Special attention was dedicated to capacity building, knowledge transfer, governance, and the coordination of future project actions. 🌍
The meeting once again demonstrated the strength of transnational cooperation and the shared commitment of all partners to advancing innovation, sustainable offshore renewable energy, and regional collaboration within the Adriatic-Ionian area. ⚡
Together, we continue building a stronger, greener, and more connected future. 🌱
