📘 Expiring passport? Wait before submitting your residence permit application! ⏳

Under Btátv. (Act XC of 2023) and its implementing rules, a residence permit can never be issued with a validity period longer than your passport's remaining validity. 🛂

So if your application isn't urgent and your passport is close to expiring, it's usually smarter to renew your passport first, then submit your residence permit application with the new one. 💡

🚨 Why does this matter?
If you submit now with a soon-to-expire passport, you won't get the permit duration you're actually entitled to. Instead, the authority can only issue it:
📅 up until your passport's expiry date (when applying for a family reunification RP), or
📉 even 3 months earlier than that, cutting your permit short

That means you could end up needing to start the renewal process again much sooner than necessary, extra paperwork, extra waiting, extra stress. 😩

✅ The smart move?
If there's no urgency, get your new passport first. It's a small delay now that saves you a shorter permit and an earlier renewal later.

📍 Hungary's counties get a new name! 📍

From 1 October, "megye" officially replaces "vármegye" as the term for a county. 🇭🇺

If you live in Hungary as a foreigner, this matters to you too: you may spot the new name in official letters, authority names and online administrative platforms. 📩💻

📢 Important notice for applicants 📢

If your application for a residence permit (issuance, replacement or exchange) or the extension of a national settlement permit issued in the national economic interest is rejected or the procedure is terminated by the Directorate-General, the decision is communicated by public notice 📄 on the official website: oif.gov.hu/announcements-and-notices

📬 The competent consular representation will also notify you about the rejection. However, the appeal deadline does not start from the date you are notified. It starts from the date the public notice is published on the website.

🗓️ How the deadlines work:
✅ The decision is considered communicated on the 15th day after the notice is published.
⏳ Residence permit rejection or termination: you have 8 days from communication to appeal.
⏳ Rejected extension of a national settlement permit (national economic interest): you have 15 days to appeal.

👀 Check the public notices regularly and keep a close eye on your appeal deadlines! Missing them can cost you your right to appeal. ⚠️

Many people don't realize this, but third-country nationals holding residence permits are legally required to report any change of accommodation address to the Immigration Office. 📋

This isn't just a formality, it's in your own interest! Once reported, you'll receive a new accommodation certificate with your current address, confirming that you're legally and officially registered where you actually live. ✅

🔑 Who does this apply to?
🏨 If you were previously registered at a commercial accommodation (e.g. a hotel or hostel) but have since moved into a rental
🔄 If you move from one rental to another, changing your registered address

📦 In short: any time your actual living situation no longer matches the address on your last accommodation certificate

💡 The process involves some paperwork and small details you need to get right, but you don't have to handle it alone!

📢 New reporting option for Guest Self-Employment Residence Permit holders

Good news for third-country nationals holding a Hungarian Guest Self-Employment Residence Permit: the regular reporting obligation can now be fulfilled electronically through the Enter Hungary platform.

But there is one important detail: the reporting deadline is not the same for everyone. The immigration authority determines the frequency and deadline individually, so permit holders should check their residence permit decision carefully. 📅

And why does this matter? Because submitting the required reports is a statutory condition for extending the residence permit.

🧐 Got a document alongside your RP you're not quite sure what it's for? 👀

If you hold a residence permit, you should usually also get an accommodation certificate with a QR code 📄✨ It confirms where you officially live in Hungary.

🔍 When might you NOT receive one?
Most commonly at renewal, if your address hasn't changed since your last certificate. Totally normal, nothing to worry about there, as you are able to use your old, previous accommodation certificate. ✅

🚨 But watch out if:
🆕 you got a brand new permit, OR
🏠 your address has changed
..and you still didn't get this certificate. That's a sign something might be missing! In that case, report it to the Immigration Office as soon as possible. ⏳
