All residence permits can be switched to an EU Blue Card domestically

Anyone holding a valid residence permit in Hungary can apply for an EU Blue Card without having to leave the country first.

This opens up a great opportunity for those, who do not meet the criteria for the permits in the highly skilled category to secure a more advantageous residence status compared to the previously available residence permit for the purpose of employment.

📢 Important Updates on Hungary’s Immigration Rules

July has brought significant changes to Hungary's immigration regulations, with more updates expected soon.

Effective from July 1, 2024, the amended immigration law affects the National Card, Residence Permit for Employment Purposes, and Guest-worker Residence Permit. While we wait for the necessary additional regulations to be published, applications for the National Card and Guest-worker Residence Permit cannot be submitted.

Additionally, the decision-making process for the Hungarian Card has changed: only foreign school degrees will be accepted going forward.
