I am immensely excited that our new project ‘EXPLORATION - The Art of Variation’ with the fabulous French-Hungarian pianist will kick off with a first recital at the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Paris on 16 December. (Please find details of the concert in the link in my bio, you just need to register and then can come and listen free of charge :) )
The form of variation that appears in a large amount of romantic compositions for the flute has long interested me. I find it fascinating to trace through the different variations of each piece, the way a composer ‘plays’ with an idea, a melody and the instruments used - in this case the flute and piano. This playfulness, the figuration and creative formation of the musical material is something truly fascinating, and it really inspires me to approach the score as creatively and as insightfully as the composers themselves. Moreover variation has great importance in general in creative arts, science and evolution. Variation of one sequence or of one subject is fundamental to survival of species, as well as to scientific revelations, but also to the creation of a true masterpiece just to mention a few aspects. So variation in itself and the act of creating variations is in a sense a real essence to life as well as to the arts.
The versatile collection of works presented in the framework of our project by Beethoven, Schubert, Blahetka and Borne range from the purest to the most dazzling virtuosity and capture the gist of expressive music making. They all are inspiring to me not only from their overall musical but also their ‘flutistic’ aspects.
As you can imagine, I cannot wait to delve into this long term project, to see how it will impact my understanding and perception of each work and to of course absorb all musical vibes from our collaboration with Suzana - I will share my experiences along the way with you here of course! You will see, our journey holds several future performances and a recording for in the years to come!!
So here I come Paris - what an end to this crazy year of 2022! Hope to see many of you at the recital!
