U.S. stocks fluctuated, with the S&P 500 Index near a two-week high, as traders weighed the probability of the U.K. voting to remain in the European Union a day before the referendum.

The S&P 500 added 0.2 percent to 2,092.97 at 9:33 a.m. in New York, following its first back-to-back gains since June 8.

In addition to the looming vote, concern that central-bank efforts are losing their potency, valuations stuck above the three-year average and successive quarters of declining profits weighed on stocks after the S&P 500 two weeks ago came within 0.6 percent of its all-time high. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen continues a two-day testimony to lawmakers after yesterday signaling a cautious and uncertain view of the economy. A report on existing home sales may offer more clues on the tenor of growth.

Emas berjangka diperdagangkan lebih rendah untuk sesi keempat Rabu ini dan menuju ke level terendahnya dalam dua minggu menjelang referendum yang sangat diantisipasi mengenai keanggotaan Inggris di Uni Eropa.

Rabu pagi, emas untuk pengiriman Agustus turun US $ 2, atau 0,1%, ke $ 1.270 per ons. Emas berakhir pada $ 1,272.50 di hari Selasa ini, penutupan terendahnya sejak 8 Juni lalu. SPDR Gold Trust ETF naik 0,2% Rabu dalam perdagangan premarket.

Sementara itu, perak bulan Juli sedikit berubah, tetapi mengarah sedikit lebih tinggi pada $ 17,33 per ons. IShares Silver Trust diperdagangkan naik 0,3% di perdagangan premarket.(mrv)
