Untuk menanyakan hari atau tanggal dalam bahasa inggris, beberapa bentuk pertanyaan yang dapat digunakan adalah: - What day is it today? What date is it today? What's the date today?
Jawabannya dapat sebagai berikut: It's Monday. To-day is Monday. It's Monday, the twenty-second. To-day is Monday, the twenty-second. To-day is the twenty-second. Atau It's the twenty-second.
Jika disebutkan bulannya. Ada tiga macam cara, misalnya untuk menyebutkan bahwa "Ini tanggal 22 Juni": (1) It's June twenty-second. (2) It's June the twenty-second. (3) It's the twenty-second of June.
Catatan:
Kata-kata 'to-day is' dapat diganti dengan it's. Jika tahunnya juga disebutkan, maka hendaklah diperhatikan letaknya. Berikut beberapa contoh yang bisa digunakan: (1) It happened on Monday, June twenty-second, nineteen eighty-five. (2) It happened on June twenty-second, nineteen eighty-five. (3) It happened on the twenty-second of June, nineteen eighty-five. (4) It happened in June, nineteen eighty-five. (5) It happened in nineteen eighty-five.
Perhatikan bahwa 'On' digunakan jika hari atau tanggalnya disebutkan, 'in' digunakan jika hari atau tanggalnya tidak disebutkan. Misalnya: (On) Thursday. On the twenty-seventh. On her birthday. On Christmas eve.
On the night of May the thirtieth. On my day off. (On) Sunday morning. (On) the day before yesterday.
In 1985. In May 1985. In winter. In the winter of 1985. In the middle of next week. In the twentieth century. In the middle ages. In the evening. In the night (atau 'At night').
