In the remote village of Hambarita, over forty people — elders, women, men, and children — joined Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia, featuring to plan the construction of eight ferrocement reservoirs, each holding 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝟰,𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟱,𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 of rainwater.

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗿, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴. This was our third community meeting, as trust and participation are essential.

📐 John from Rotary Australia (Rotary Club Mandurah Districts - Perth Rotary - Western Australia) a retired engineer, joined 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗶, 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 to adjust the reservoir’s technical plans. This 115,000-litre tank is designed for one of East Sumba’s harshest regions.

🔧 Alongside it, eight ferrocement tanks (4,500–5,300L) will be built directly in the villages, supplying water where it’s most needed, close to homes, built by families, for families.

🌱 Each reservoir will have a name, symbolising shared responsibility and pride. Every detail matters: durability, safety, filtration, and above all, ownership.

📸 We concluded the meeting with a joyful group photo in front of the school, marking a momentous occasion three years of trust, dialogue, and community design.

🩺 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Kawan Sehat agents to disinfect wounds, manage fevers, and detect high-risk situations early. This grassroots training aligns with Swiss medical standards, ensuring top-quality care in every remote corner.
💧 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴ferrocement reservoirs and rainwater tank with communities because access to clean water is the foundation of primary healthcare. Studies show clean water can reduce diarrhoeal diseases by up to 50%.
🚚 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴the Truck of Life and Truck n’ Load through difficult terrains to deliver essential medicines, tests, and bandages. A lifeline in areas where healthcare is often days away on foot.

In Nggoa, we gathered with seven 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲, accompanied by our partners from Rotary (Perth Rotary - Western Australia and Rotary Club Mandurah Districts), and local health officials (Protokol Sumba Timur). Together, we assessed the transformative impact of community-based medical care in saving lives each day in East Sumba.

The Puskesmas welcomed us warmly, 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱: a lack of running water, a deteriorating laboratory, and inadequate sanitation facilities. Nurse Ivon and Dr. Narni, demonstrating courage and compassion, remain dedicated to providing medical care despite these conditions.

Recognising the leadership of Ivon and Dr. Narni, Rotary awarded them certificates co-signed by the Ministry of Health. Agents shared field stories and discussed the Kawan Sehat app, planning further steps for increased outreach and impact.

In Waingapu, a significant alliance was formed between Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia foundations, in collaboration with Rotary Club Mandurah Districts - Perth Rotary - Western Australia and the political leaders of East Sumba (Protokol Sumba Timur). The evening was filled with unity, gratitude, and a 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 — 𝗞𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

In May 2025, we celebrated 21 Kawan Sehat health agents, 20 women and one man, who completed three days of primary medical care training. In areas with limited doctor access, these agents serve as a community's lifeline, often the only barrier between illness and wellness.

Monthly, these professionals care for nearly 1,000 patients, treating wounds, infections, malaria, monitoring blood pressure, and educating families about hygiene and nutrition. This care is grounded in scientific principles and Swiss medical expertise, ensuring high standards.

𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆:

📱 Used the Kawan Sehat app and manuals for accurate medical and social data recording

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝟲𝟳 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 highlights their determination, solidarity, and the power of knowledge to transform healthcare access where systems fail. This initiative is more than training; it embodies dignity, equality, and the right to health.

A very important message from Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia foundations.

Animals, such as dogs and cats, are not just possessions, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀. Their emotions mirror ours; they experience happiness, fear, and pain just as we do🐾.

Taking care of a pet involves more than just occasional feeding; 𝗶𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. This includes providing fresh food and water, keeping them clean and healthy, and 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, whether they are young and energetic or older and unwell.

It is essential to recognise that an unwell pet can affect the entire household. Parasites, infections, and bacteria are indifferent to species—they can affect anyone. Maintaining good hygiene, staying current with vaccinations, keeping living spaces clean, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

On 19 September 2025 at 14:00, the Fair Future Foundation, in collaboration with Kawan Baik Indonesia, will officially hand over a substantial donation of 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗗𝗥 𝟮𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗖𝗛𝗙 𝟭𝟮,𝟬𝟬𝟬) in state-of-the-art medical equipment to RSUD Umbu Rara Meha (RSUD Umbu Rara Meha Waingapu). This hospital is a lifeline for nearly 𝟴𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮, Indonesia. This contribution highlights Swiss medical excellence (Swiss Development & Cooperation) and marks a step towards transforming healthcare in one of Indonesia’s most remote regions.

The donation encompasses 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟰𝟬 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟳𝟱 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 carefully selected in partnership with doctors and nurses to meet urgent medical needs:
🩺 Neonatal resuscitation equipment, phototherapy lamps, and paediatric sensors
🔬 Diagnostic tools such as Olympus microscopes, centrifuges, and counting chambers
✂️ Complete surgical sets and sterilisation tools
📈 A 12-lead ECG machine with a trolley for improved cardiac care
🌡️ Essential items like pulse oximeters, thermometers, Ambu bags, and nebulisers

This equipment will enable medical teams to perform critical tasks such as𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 previously hampered by limited resources. East Sumba takes a bold step against malaria, prioritising the health and well-being of its people. In this Indonesian region, where malaria remains a daily threat, Fair Future Foundation, together with Malaria Partners International, Rotary International and Kawan Baik Indonesia, has initiated the 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱.

We were warmly received by Nurse Ivon and Dr. Narni, who have played a vital role in implementing health initiatives in this ultra-rural region. 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀: broken laboratory equipment, a lack of running water, and inadequate sanitation. Addressing these issues is essential to improving healthcare outcomes, a commitment that reflects 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱'𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

𝗘𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲'𝘀 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀: our red manual, educational posters, and health workers' backpacks filled with essential supplies. The workers shared field reports, discussed the mobile app, and described how this decentralised care model saves lives every day. This approach is inspired by Swiss methodologies known for their structured and efficient healthcare systems.
