"Is solar with batteries still unrealistic?"

The truth is systems now costs half as much as they did 10 years ago, and the price keeps dropping as technology gets better.

All thanks to China's economies of scale.

They're producing 80% of the worlds panels and batteries.

Lucky for us, Indonesia doesn't enforce severe tarrifs on Chinese technology like some western markets do, so install prices here are among the lowest in the world.

How many power cuts is the new normal in Kuta Lombok?

There used to be 2-3 per month, now there's one almost every day.

The increase in construction is extreme and electricity supply can't keep up.

Unlike Bali, Lombok is an isolated grid.

That means no help from the bigger islands of Java and Sumatra.

Backup power isn't nice to have anymore, it's a necessity with this unreliable grid.

That leaves two options:

Diesel fueled generator, or lithium batteries powered by sunshine.
