PROTECTING RIVERS, SAFEGUARDING ISLANDS
Building resilient infrastructure is important. Building resilient communities is essential.

While engineering solutions are fundamental, We believe this project is also an opportunity to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for Dumai.

During the discussion, We shared three key perspectives:

🌊 Early Warning System (EWS). Flood protection is not only about controlling water—it is about giving communities time to prepare. Integrating hydrological monitoring, tidal forecasting, sirens, mobile technology, and community preparedness can significantly strengthen Dumai's resilience against tidal flooding and climate risks.

🤝 Community-Based Tourism (CBT). Beyond asking "Who will be affected?" we should also ask "Who will benefit?" Sustainable development should empower local communities, strengthen MSMEs, preserve Malay cultural heritage, promote environmental education, and ensure that those who have cared for the river become the primary beneficiaries of its future.

🌱 Blue Carbon. Sungai Dumai is closely connected to mangrove ecosystems that provide climate resilience, biodiversity, coastal protection, and long-term opportunities for sustainable development. Protecting these ecosystems is an investment in future generations.

Infrastructure protects a city. Communities sustain it. Nature secures its future.

As the blessed month of Ramadan comes to a close, we welcome Eid al-Fitr as a moment of renewal—returning to our fitrah, a state of purity, compassion, and balance.

Eid is not only a celebration of spiritual victory, but also a reaffirmation of our shared responsibility toward one another and the world we inhabit. The values we uphold during Ramadan—discipline, solidarity, and generosity—must continue to guide our actions beyond this sacred time.

From acts of kindness within our neighborhoods to collective efforts in protecting our ecosystems, every step forward reflects the true meaning of Eid.
