Australia based specialized engineering company HRL Technology has worked with Indonesian power producer PT YTL for over ten years, providing metallurgical and materials services for risk management of the power station assets in Paiton. PT YTL engaged HRL to apply a state-of-the-art methodology in order to assess the current condition, fitness-for-service, and remaining life of all aspects of the power station, equipment, and assets. The inspection provided data which enabled PT YTL to develop strategic plans for life extension of equipment, including services such as: equipment integrity analysis, corrosion monitoring of structures and equipment, corrosion damage evaluation, and fatigue and creep damage to predict the parts of the plant most at risk of a failure.

With the Ausmincham, EMD, the WA Government and the Australian embassy, we organized an important event called "Bridging the Skills Gap in Indonesia's Mining and Infrastructure" where we discussed ideas and thoughts on improving the pool of skilled Indonesians in the sectors. We all agreed that vocational education and training could play a greater role in improving the sector, more so perhaps then the role of higher education.

We were honored to have auspicious speakers presented: Bapak Rainier Haryanto (Director of KPPIP), Ken Crichton (President of Thiess Indonesia) and Prof. Chris Aldrich (WA School of Mines, Curtin University). Many thanks to HE Alistair Cox (Deputy Ambassador), Jennifer Matthews (Commissioner of WA in Indonesia) and Ben Giles (Commissioner of QLD in Indonesia)
