Swiss farmers, consumers, and NGOs might be turning against palm oil, but Swiss’ government was still sharp to do more business with the world’s biggest producer of palm oil, Indonesia.

Regarding to this deal, there’ll be an abolition to tariffs from almost all of Swiss’ biggest exports to Indonesia, while duties on Indonesian industrial products will be abolished by Swiss.

There’s a hope coming from The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), that the result would convince other European countries that Indonesian palm oil is the best class, speaking of sustainability. Indonesia is also fighting against European Union ban on palm oil usage as biofuel by 2021.

In this issue, Indonesia needs to ensure that eminent commodities are included in the agreement under principles of mutualism to the benefit of both parties. A strategy needs to be mapped out by Indonesia on how to make the most of the agreement, especially around raising business awareness and ensuring the quality of exports, as well as imports. It’s also important to discuss persistent barriers to trade and investment links for both parties, including market & transportation costs, product quality, and production capacity.

It’s crucial to support dynamic, competitive, and progressive trading relationships in any UK-Indonesia economic partnership.

As last year showed, inflexibility in the business struggle when the unexpected happens. Uncertainty on the horizon is suggesting businesses not seek a return to pre-Covid norms. Extending business services enables companies to diversify income while increasing flexibility. Here are 4 tips to seamlessly expand your business services:

1. Serve a New Market
For example, your B2C may be the primary focus, but B2B can introduce a new revenue stream.

2. Expand Into New Regions.
Especially in this remote era, it’s easier to expand operations quickly by capitalizing on existing brand authority.

3. Push Harder Into Partnerships.
Partner marketing is an excellent way to find mutual benefits for companies.

4. Talk To Your Team.
Everyone should always be able to set up a feedback system and contribute.

“MSMEs are facing several problems, including limited production capacity, capital, human resources, ability to meet standards, and limitations in product marketing, especially in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic.”

Indonesia Store (IDNStore), a digital trading platform has been virtually launched by Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi. This platform is created to help Indonesian products especially those made by MSMEs, pe*****te markets in China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. It’s also expected to enable B2B and B2C transactions between registered Indonesian business actors and potential buyers in other countries. IDNStore acts as an incubator as well as a benchmark for Indonesian MSMEs to target export markets in other regions.

“The acceleration of technology use has proven to be an effective and efficient tool in promoting exports, including the provision of data and information as a basis for business decision-making” Muhammad Lutfi explained.

It is indeed time for all export-oriented Indonesian MSMEs to optimize the use of digital platforms to improve their export performance.
