Behavioral scientists call this the IKEA Effect, a concept introduced in 2011 after researchers discovered that people place greater value on products they helped assemble than identical products built by someone else.

A simple phrase can shape the way people respond to challenges.

In a well-known experiment by Carol Dweck, children were given puzzles to solve and received different types of praise.

When they faced a more difficult challenge, their responses changed. Those praised for intelligence became more afraid of failure, while those praised for effort were more willing to embrace challenges and continue learning.

This reveals an important lesson about mindset:

Through a series of engagements, discussions, and learning visits, delegates gained valuable perspectives from Singapore’s labour market system, particularly in enhancing skills development, employment policies, and evidence-informed decision-making.

Beyond knowledge exchange, this program also created opportunities to build connections, share experiences, and explore future cooperation across ASEAN.
