🇪🇺 EUROPE STARTS HERE – THIS FRIDAY IN BAILIEBOROUGH! 🇮🇪🇱🇻

We’re delighted to welcome Minister of State Niamh Smyth and H.E. Agnese Saliņa, Ambassador of Latvia to Ireland, to Bailieborough this Friday for a special Europe Starts Here public seminar.

They will be joined by Cllr Niall Smyth, who will officially welcome our guests, before Blackwater Training’s Debbie Bough moderates a conversation exploring Ireland, Latvia and Europe’s future.

We’ll be asking what Ireland’s upcoming EU Presidency means for communities like ours, how smaller Member States can influence Europe, what AI and digital transformation mean for rural communities, how the relationship between Ireland and Latvia can be strengthened, and ultimately: What does Europe mean to you?

The conversation will be followed by practical sessions exploring how the EU works, Erasmus+ and European mobility opportunities, European citizenship, EU values and how people in rural communities can have a stronger voice in Europe.
📅 Friday, 9 October 2026
📍 Bailieborough Courthouse, Main Street
☕ Registration from 9:30am
🎤 Official welcome & special guest conversation from 10:10am
🇪🇺 EU workshops from 11:15am
🥪 Sandwich lunch provided
🕜 Finish at 1:30pm

This is a public event and everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be an expert on the EU — the whole point of Europe Starts Here is to make Europe accessible, relevant and connected to the communities where we live. Come along, join the conversation and have your say on the Europe you want to see.

🌿 A week of creativity, connection and new experiences in Ordona, Italy. 🌿

As part of the kokoVERSES Youth Exchange – Creative Writing for a Healthy Mind, young people from across Europe came together to explore creative writing, wellbeing and our relationship with the digital world.

Throughout the week, participants took part in Words Labs, mindfulness activities, The Human Library and the public event “Parole in Mostra”, alongside plenty of time for conversation, teamwork and getting to know each other.

For us at Blackwater Training, these exchanges are about much more than travel. They give young people the chance to meet people from different countries and backgrounds, try something new, build confidence and create connections that would not happen in everyday life. Creative writing gave participants another way to share ideas, reflect on their own experiences and connect with others beyond the screen.

A big thank you to everyone involved in making the week possible. 🤝
