Happy new year.

Just bringing you up to date on developments. One that will affect many employers and employees is in relation to the increase in the Minimum Wage. The national minimum hourly rate will become €10.50 on 1 January 2022.

Aged 20 and over €10.50
Under 18 €7.35
Aged 18 €8.40
Aged 19 €9.45

Wishing all my clients a very happy new year. Let us hope that this year will not be as challenging for employers as was 2020.

Just a reminder that the National Minimum Wage increased to €10.20 per hour for experienced adult workers from 1 January 2021.

Today I celebrate 41 years of work. I started work in the Central Bank of Ireland on the 30th April 1979. Thankfully I have worked non stop since, until Friday 13th March 2020 when work closed down. Friday, 13th lived up to its name. Hopefully we will all be back soon again. In the meantime, let's keep this going until it is safe to return and then we can work on rebuilding the economy without any further interruptions. Keep safe everybody

As I have had a number of cancellations as businesses are not pursuing training programmes, due to concerns over Covid 19, I have decided to do some refurbishment of the office. Would you like to work a 4 day week? As an employer how would you feel about offering staff a 4 day week? I will be discussing this on 'Wicklow this Week' on East Coast FM tomorrow (Saturday) at 9.00am. Would be interested in your thoughts on this matter.

A number of organisations have come together in support of the idea, saying productivity levels could be maintained or even increased.

This case highlights the need to have Dignity and Respect policies in the workplace and to provide training to staff and management on how to handle these situations should they occur

Waterford Institute of Technology was ordered to pay compensation for not doing enough to prevent the sexual harassment.
