The fifth piece in “The Kevin Smith Collection”. This was the final piece I designed for his last episode of “Supergirl”.

Titled “Bunker Hill”, this was actually my favorite episode of all of his directorial efforts. Dealing with themes of racist masked vigilantism against aliens living on earth, this episode will always be relevant. Especially today.

The fourth piece in “The Kevin Smith Collection”. This was one of the earliest pieces, probably the second. You can see the skill’s hadn’t totally sharpened yet, I was still trying learn a visual language for these designs.

This piece was centered around the character of Killerfrost, which made the theming and colours of this piece quite obvious.

As an early piece, I’m still quite happy with the result. I hope you all like it

The third piece in “The Kevin Smith Collection”. This piece was based on an episode of Supergirl that Kevin directed.

I based this design around Kevin himself and his outfit he wore while working on the episode. Many many behind the scenes photographs later I was able to nail down the look. Another part of the design was to capture him holding the hologram of Supergirl, a pivotal moment from the episode.

Number 2 in “The Kevin Smith Collection”. This was one of the most recent designs.

Usually when I design a piece for , I try to include him using some sort of creative reference to his episode. This one was no different, but with the added bonus of including his “hetero life mate”

Playing their iconic duo, Jay & Silent Bob, this episodes of was a treat for all Smith fans. I just hope I captured a tiny amount of that fun.

The first of “The Kevin Smith Collection”. I’m not posting these pieces in any specific order. But I am starting with my favorite piece.

Part 2:

As someone who would call themselves a “nerd”, filmmaker Kevin Smith is a folk hero amongst people like us. You may know Kevin Smith as the Director of movies, such as “Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back”, Dogma and “Clerks”. But he has also been known to direct episodes for CW DC television shows such as “The Flash” and “Supergirl”. I produced one custom art piece based on his first episode of the flash titled “The Runaway Dinosaur”. This design was strictly for myself, a personal creation for my wall and I certainly didn’t expect for this creation to travel overseas to the man himself. Six individual pieces later I viewed this crazy time as an amazing endorsement and a major accomplishment. I left it there.

But in 2019 that story would add an extra chapter. When I heard of Kevin Smith’s upcoming live show in Victor St., Dublin I emailed the shows “Q&A”, asking if Kevin would autograph copies of the artwork he had that I had designed.

This project was somewhat of a roller coaster. The client was releasing his first single online and needed artwork produced for the various platforms.

The songs lyrics were about facing your reflection, recognizing our flaws and confronting the elements of ourselves we don’t like. So obviously the artwork had to represent that narrative.

Finding models for this project was problematic and we were on a tight deadline, so I took a big leap out of my comfort zone and posed for the pictures myself. Finally getting to use my background in photography.

I was so happy with the way it turned out and thankfully Mulcahy himself was too. The best result we could ask for.

This was one of MANY designs for a social media marketing company. The company ended up not going forward in the end. This design was definitely one of my most challenging projects. I never felt like I truly cracked it, but I did enjoy this specific one.
